I didnt know a registration ticket from 07 would be a point/ add to insurance cost

So back in dec. 07 , i got a minor registration ticket *i bought a car in feb, paid registration, but never got it smogged since it would have required some major corrections to pass (it never passed since it was gutted cats and i knew that when i bought the car so I wouldnt pressure the prior owner since i traded my old 240sx *which was modded, so that wouldnt pass smog either**, so drove I it on temps.. i think at the time of the ticket, i didnt have any temp month papers (since it was the prior month or so) on the car so i drove it around, but registration was paid for, it just needed smog. I got pulled over for basically no tags. I showed all the paperwork i had, showing it was paid etc , I dont remember the violation I got. Well i eventually traded that car for my rx7 during that same month and i think I just paid the ticket. I forget what violation it was for but something minor that I didnt think it would hurt anything to just pay the fine.

I didnt think nothing of it,.. fast forward to today, got a quote for a different insurance company and they consider it a point on my driving record and the cost goes up "and its an rx7" says the guy on the phone.. I didnt know something soo stupid would hurt.

It would be alot cheaper for me to stay with our current company. Im under my moms insurance lol, i still live at home at the moment (things just didnt work out well for me with prior school/jobs, but im seriously trying to work on it and make those improvements). But my mom wants to change companies since she would be getting a better deal for herself, despite my side of the bill being more costly due to the past ticket.

What gets me is that the other companies, this registration ticket never bothered them or ever brought it up, i completely forgot about it.

Guess im gonna call our current insurance company tomorrow and ask about just keeping me on the plan and dropping my mom since they already have my record and see if they can keep me on the same rate. I hope that works.

I switched to progressive, and saved a bunch of money. When getting quotes don't mention any tickets or anything like that. It is kind of odd that they consider a registration ticket a point... maybe the guy was just dicking you. Anyways yeah try other auto places to get a quote.
