jack the car up from the rear, and spin one wheel, if the other wheel spin the same direction, its got LSD. if it spins the opposite, you got an open diff.

some diffs dont have this, it can also get lost in those 20 years.

although a quick way to see if it is an lsd or not, checking it is best.

I read that most FC's are balanced well enough to put down two strips of rubber whether you have an LSD or not.

If it has the stub axles attached, see if they both spin at the same time. If so, you have lsd. Another way to tell is to take it appart, since its a good idea to rebuild it anyways

Same time/same direction...its all the same!
But really, just rebuild it. Having a fresh clutch pack in there makes a world of difference.

+1 on the notion to just go ahead and rebuild it. It won't cost that much and it's not all that difficult to do. Sure as hell beats paying $900 for an aftermarket unit!! Just my .02 though.

Acidangel, if you spin one axle and the other on spins in the same direction then it's an LSD. If it spins in the opposite direction then it's an open diff. Don't get mixed up on RXgirl7's description.

I have checked it out, if you spin the driveline yoke, the axles spin the same direction NOT OPPISITE, but if you hold one of the axles the DL will still turn wilh the other axle. It doesnt have a LSD tag but who knows. If we pull out the diff it should be obvious with the LSD clutches. PULL IT APART AND REBUILT IMO. If it turns out it isnt LSD, post up the members SN and ask WTF!

The will to learn + Haynes or FSM + effort = rebuilt LSD. Just take your time and do it by the book and you'll be just fine.
