!!!Hang Over Run 2011!!!

Ohkay everyone the time is almost here for the 2011 Hang Over Run!!!

Date- Jan, 1st 2011

Time- TBA

Place- TBA

My dad and I are going to spend this weekend planning an awesome cruise and we are going to drive the route to make sure it will go good the day of the cruise. We are thinking of taking Highway 74 through Hemet. I do not know the route but my dad said it is gorgeous and really fun to drive. We will pick a place to meet to start the cruise and a place to eat and hang out for either mid or the end of the cruise. The time will be in the morning (hence the name, hang over run) but I am not sure what time. Probably around 8am though.

Any recomendations on good routes, good grub, or anything else would be greatly appreciated. I would like to see a nice turn out for this year. Last year was very fun and I would like this year to be even better. Who is interested? I know we have alot of drinkers on here and can not even imagine waking up early on new years but just think of it as the first cruise of the new year and make it anyway.

Right now I am kind of thinking of meeting behind the In N Out on Highway 74 in Hemet (huge parking lot). Then heading up 74 through the twisties and break off on to the 243 and head in to Idyllwild. Then grab some food in Idyllwild or just turn around and head back to In N Out for food. This is not set and stoned, just a thought. I will drive that route this weekend and see how it feels, and see if there is any good food in Idyllwild and enough parking incase we get a good turn out.

The original hangover run was mainly made up of Miatas and RX-7s with some other cars sprinkled in. While Mazdas were the majority, it's never really been a Mazda only thing but it was organized by the Miata club.

Hopefully this hangover run is more fun than the previous one we had. That one felt like it dragged on too much at times.

All cars are most deffinetly welcome!

I only went on last years HOR but I did not see any one posting anything about this years so I figured I would so it does not come up at the last minute. Last year had a bit too many turns and confusion so this year I am trying to make a simple but fun route. Plus I am going to drive the route first to make sure it is all good.

I will keep everyone posted on the for sure route but I am liking what I have posted above as it is a nice twisty road with great views. The only thing I am worried about is finding parking in Idyllwild for everyone.

I talked to my dad and he said there is nothing for parking in Idyllwild so we are not going to go that route. He is thinking 74 to the 371 to the 79. It is very simple and we can eat in Temecula at one of the million places. Then we can all split from Temecula and go home. It sounds really good to me and that is what we will probably stick with.

This is a very scenic route with little to no confusion. It also has some good twisties and some good straights. I will drive it this weekend and post up how it feels and how long of a cruise it will be.

It would be great if the route was easily accessible from where ever we meet in the morning. The previous hangover runs started right off of the freeway and ended right off of the freeway. Have you checked the Miata forums for any HOR plans?

I have not checked yet. I will do that tonight

It is very easy. The In N Out is on the 74 so we would just pull out and it would be a straight shot up 74 then right on the 371 then right on to the 79. If anyone gets lost they should go back to pre school.

Just make sure there is plenty of excess parking at the start and end places. Don't want to attract any more attention than necessary.

We are still in serious thought because the run I have posted will be way to short. Kind of thinking about meeting at the lake Elsinore outlets in the HUGE over flow lot to add some time to the cruise but it adds complication and more chances for people to get lost at stop lights. Thinking of starting at outlets then hopin' on the 15 and taking it to Cajalco which goes to the 215 then hop on that and take that all the way to the 74 then hopin' on that and continue on the previously posted route. We will get a For Sure route made this weekend after we do some driving.

Also I am going to post the run on Motorgen to get some more heads.

This is a longgggg run. Just from where I'm at (crossroads of 210 and 15), its 54 minutes to the 74.

I estimate about 2 hours of drive time for the cruise itself. Do you guys think thats too long? I am just trying to make it worth it.

it depends on the scenery, what food is available in the area and gas stations

Ok my dad and I just got back and man it is a beautiful drive and one of the best roads I have ever been on. We did it backwards because we were already in Temecula but it took us an hour and a half to get to Hemet.

So the run will be- start at the Lake Elsinore Outlets, hop on the 74 and take that to the 215, then hop back on the 74 (you can not stay on the 74, it stops in Perris and you HAVE TO get on the 215 to continue on it in to Hemet) and take that all the way up to the 371, then on to the 79 in to Temecula and we will stop in Temecula for food.

We will stop right before the twisties to regroup just incase. Later today I am going to hop on Google Maps and figure how to make the route.

From the starting point to the ending point will be 2 hours give or take 15 minutes or so. It is only about 85 miles of driving so everyone just fill upon gas before the cruise and we shouldn't need to make any gas stops. And if you have water injection make sure she is full.

Trust me when I say- The drive is beautiful, alot of trees ans what not. This blew the Ortega side of highway 74 clean out of the water! I hope to see a nice turn out and meet some new people!
