gross polluters charge!!!!!

just doing a quick survey and am going to try and submit something to the state but in a nutshell it will be.

we see all of these muscle cars and such on the road with blowers and completely done engines they dont have to be smogged so there legal.

well those of us with vehicles not meeting current smog regulation. anything on your vehicle not factory "engine mods" are def pissed at current ca smog regulation, right? those state ref tickets suck.

so why not pay a polluters fee, have a gross polluters license?

not only would it help with the so called "emissions problems in CA"
but it would also go towards state spending upgrading facilities, research, tax things like that.

who would be for that. idk about you but they would probly make a lot more money doing this for everyone, and i think everyone would be willing to pay to make their car street legal...

everyone wins who is up for it?

Ok, in all seriousness, I don't think the problem is so much that they want to give out the tickets. I think the idea is too try to keep the air as clean as possible. Say you have 4 million people in Phoenix and 3 million of them are willing to pony up the money to take the converter off their car and not have to pass smog. Pretty soon you have 3 million cars causing tons of smog and the government says it is ok because they paid their share. That screws the people that felt no need to pay the extra money because they still have to breathe the bad air.

well i see your point of view... but it is nearly irrelevant due to the fact that CALIFORNIA is the only state that has these strict smog laws!!!!!

Lol buy carbon credits for your car, there ya go.

Actually I was thinking kind of the opposite. Eliminating the visual inspection of the emission check, but you still need to pass sniffer. That way you can have crazy turbo/supercharger/ems setup or whatever and as long as it passes sniffer it doesn't matter.

+1 on that.

But then cops would not know if you are smog legal when they pull you over unless they have a sniffer on them

Not exactly. It's one of the strictest (and trying to become even stricter) but there are several other states that have CA-style laws.

I have to pass smog in Phoenix. Granted it is not as bad as California because I don't have a visual inspection. They just plug into my OBDII and scan for codes. Any older cars get the sniffer.

Another problem is that the whole world is focusing on going green. I have noticed everyone thinks cars are the main contributing factor of green house gasses and want to eliminate cars before taking any other steps to help eliminate other types of pollution.

Things that i think should be addressed before california starts banning and crushing our cars (they have tried to pass a bill recently that required all cars back to 1929 to pass smog)include.

Wasting electricity
wasting water
better recycling plants
Deforestation (mainly the rain forests)
China factories pollute a ton, remember during the olympics when they always talked about air pollution and the problems it may cause for the athletes. They have almost no pollution laws.
Here in europe almost all the cars are diesel, diesel puts out a lot of pollution. I can see the haze in the streets at anytime.
These are the tip of the ice burg.

Unfortunately we live in CA where we think we have to be at the forefront of the green race, which is bad for us as we have to pass some of the strictest and probably soon to be stricter smog laws.

If anything the CA state govt will target your cars for test only smog more often and label you a gross polluter and make you pay fines until your car either passes smog or you crush it with the cash for cars program.

After all CA is facing a 42 BILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT this year alone. They are already doubling registration, dont give them any other ideas to take our money away.

I think it is a good idea if you get a state ref ticket its a 400 fine and then your good untill your next smog which is every 3 years... I think it would be smart to have a gross poluters tax... And think of this... If within the state of California 1 million of its residence paid this tax each year and it was around $500 for the year thats 500 million a year in income to put towards air quality facilities, Alternate Fuels, senators/Governers pockets... I think its a great idea..

Does anyone know about the smog laws for Nevada? Specifcally, Washoe county. I've been thinking of registering my car in Reno, NV. Just wondering how strict they are in NV with smog. I'm googling as we speak, just wanted some first hand feedback.
