I fought the law...and I won!.... doing the trial by declaration thing. There was luck involved too though. What a nice feeling it was walking out of that courtroom with the case dismissed!

Right now, I'm planning to delay my court appearance and hope the cop doesn't show up. At the same time if he does show up, request the fine to be reduced and/or maybe traffic school for no points on my record.
oh and about running from the cops...
there wasn't an exit for 10 miles... plus my car isn't fast enough

I will add my 2 cents,
I have done a ride along with CHP and can tell you first had that the radar units these guys have are very accurate and can use radar moving or stationary. Even if there is a group of cars it can identify the fastest speed of the group, the officer then just needs to identify himself which car that speed belongs to.
Fighting the ticket and hoping the cop doesn't show is a gamble but does work. I just don't have the time to spend hours going to court, so I just pay the tickets and do online traffic school which takes me like 2 hours tops.
Also in Cali if you get a ticket in different counties you can go to traffic school for each ticket even if it has not been 18 months. Like Los Angeles and Ventura county. I know cause I have many of times.

Remember, all agencies pay their officers 4-hours of mandatory overtime just for showing up on his day off for 20 minutes regarding your petty traffic ticket. $160 for 20 minutes sounds good to me.
They have a great So Cal community that I am starting to join in on. But most of the threads on there aren't too technical and mostly have to do with intakes, bodykits, and over-priced Mugen items. I guess thats what happens when the cars are so reliable.
Plus I like the knuckle-heads around here and I like to keep up-to-date on rotary information since I have a little project starting in the future.

1) do trial by written contest (it works sometimes....worked once out of 5 times for me)
2) if that fails ask for trial de novo in your city (hopefully the pig wont be incented enough to make the drive to your city). if the pig does show up at least try to negotiate down the fine.

From what I understand it does happen, but these tickets I hear are easy wins in court. Has something to do with "hear say" meaning the officer writing the ticket was told by the pilot of the plane your speed. In order for the ticket to hold up the CHP plane pilot would have to issue the ticket.
Best bet if you see a plane flying with the road that seems to be going kinda slow for a plane then ease up on the speed. They use set distance dash marks on the highway and count how long it takes for you to get to the next dash. This is how they measure your speed. This is also done only on long open streches of road, like pearblossom hwy.
Get a V1 radar detector if you do lots of long drives. Expensive but will pay for itself within a short time period.
