got off with warning, Rotary Extreme vmount comments too...

hey all,

just got the rotary extreme vmount set up. three days of having it, i already got pulled over for speeding. i was heading to work around 7:30 in the morning on 101. did a 3rd and 4th gear pull. less than a minute later, highway patrol pulls me over.

one thing i learned is to never lie to a cop (well not about your speed). when he asked me how fast i was going, i said i was going pretty fast. he asked me why, i hesistated, he jumps in "just wanted to open it up?", and i said yes. i didn't lie about my speed, or made up some reason for speeding like being late for work. he takes my licence, etc, and walks towards the front of my car. i thought at this point he was going to ask to open up the hood. but then he walks back to his car and just rights me a ticket for not having a front licence plate, and noted a warning for speeding. his reason for not giving me a ticket was "since you were honest", as he put it.

i got very lucky, thank god.

on the bright side, i am very happy with the Rotary Extreme v-mount setup. i got the cold air box with it.

the lowest air temps i've seen with my last setup (large smic), i see almost everytime when cruising with the v-mount now. the lowest temp with my old setup was 24 deg C going to work in the morning one day. today, first time i brought the car out to work with the vmount, i saw 17 deg C.

i am also seeing higher peak boost, meaning the v-mount probably has less pressure drop then my old setup. with the old setup, i only occasionally see .80 bar. today i saw .85 bar (~12+psi) during my 3rd/4th gear pull, injectors were peaking to 91%. i've also noticed that my 1st/2nd gear pulls harder and has higher peak boost at ~.78 bar (~11+psi).

thanks to kai, chuck of rotary extreme, and sonny for making it happen (not the ticket, haha).

will post pics in a bit.

late,
chris

It's always nice to hear of pleasant experiences with law enforcement. For the most part you only hear stories of being "wronged" by the police and complaining when they get caught for doing something illegal.

Were you the one I saw at Chuck's saw a few days ago? With the red FD where Chuck and his friend were yelling at each about a 90º fitting? lol. Just wondering. I saw a red FD when I went to drop Chuck's wheel off that I borrowed and your avatar has a red FD sooo yeah . Great to hear the comments about the v-mount set up. I'm also going that route soon also.

maybe, i forget. i remember argueing about some miscommunication about the 90 deg fitting for the ypipe meeting the intercooler (just sarcastic complaints). i can't remember a face at the shop when it happened tho. then again, my memory is bad... but it is likely possible, given the red fd, same conversation, at the same place. but it wasn't a few days ago... maybe a little over a week ago.

well i encountered a crackheaded cop a couple weeks back...
it was friday night and i knew the cops were out to bust people so i was doing 65-70 on my automatic integra and a cop flies right toward me, and pulls me over right away

here's our conversation:
cop" do you know why i pulled you over?"
me " nope"
cop " you were doing 95"
me "i don't think i was doing 95, i was watching my speed the whole time"
cop " my radar is pretty damn accurate, i PACED YOU going at 95" (he barely got behind me, how can he have paced me?)
cop " don't lie, just be honest"
me " i am"

so he asks me "have you been drinking tonight?"
me " no"
cop " WHY NOT?"
me " uhh because i'm driving"
cop *grins*then tells me to BE RESPONSIBLE, and keep it down, and that i was lucky

moral: if he THINKS he's right, he'll still fug with you, even with no evidence.

Chris, do you know what was involved with getting the a/c working with your v-mount install?

Are you running a vented or stock hood?

rynberg: i opted to go without A/C. i wanted to keep it, but being the impatient person i am, i wanted my car back on the road asap. but from what i was told, if you wanted to keep the A/C, it is possible. not sure of the exact details, but i know that there is some cutting and welding to be done with the A/C. heard its not complicated tho. Rotary Extreme can have it done for you installed with A/C.

thanks for the comments. you do NOT need a vented hood to run this setup. although, having a vented hood would definately help its functionality.

killed lt1 camaro

was going to start a thread on my kill in the appropriate section, but ill just do it here.

green lt1 camaro, gunmetal wider wheels, moderately loud (exhaust atleast). sounded mean, and the sound of it lured me to see if wanted to have a little fun. sure enough he did.

passing slower traffic, i was ahead, and was waiting for him. he was coming up on my left. anticipating a fly by i dropped down a gear and waited. sure enough he was trying to fly by. punched it. he stood still for a second at my door. i pulled away a car length.

oncomoing slower traffic approaches. we pass them, and nice stretch of road with no cars came up. i looked at the guy, big smile on his face. i signal with my hands to slow down a bit, so he follows and slows. i drop it down to the appropriate gear, i'm assuming he did the same. i wave 3 fingers to him signaling to go on 3. he nods. fingers go 3, 2, 1, then i point towards the road ahead. i didn't honk, both our cars were loud, and i don't think we couldve heard it well. and the visual countdown i did, at the time, was very clear on when to go. upon punching the throttle, i surprisingly jump on him (was at the sweet spot) about half a car length. at first i thought he messed up at the countdown or something went wrong, so i let off to half throttle. but sure enough, he was going for it. i resumed full throttle, he stood still. aftershifting i slowly pulled away atleast a car length. couldn't tell exactly, he was at my blind spot, and i didn't want to look back.

after slowing, i give him a look. he nods his head up and down lipping "that's bad", well i think that's what he was saying. smiles, i give him a thumbs up.

peak boost was .82 bar, peak injector duty at 89.X%, air temp was very low 30s, high 20s.

was fun,
chris
