What's the back-story on this?

Clearly someone has suffered a tragic loss, but can you fill us in on what happened? It'd probably help you recruit more participants.

 

On Jan 18th the mother's ex-boyfriend took her four year old son and drove into the canal with the little boy in Patterson. It took them a couple of days to pull the car out of the canal because the water is so dirty that there is no visability under water and four days later they found the boy's body floating near Santa Nella about 30 miles from where the car dove into the water. Everyone was hoping that what a farm worker had told cops about him seeing the car an hour after the alleged man had taken the boy that they would not find both of ex-boyfriend and the boy there but the reality was different. The little boys cause of death was determined death by drowning and they still haven't found the mother's ex-boyfriend yet to make matters worse this poor mother is preparing to burry her son and is also preparing to give birth to a baby girl whose dad was the ex-boyfriend. This has been a really sad story taken into consideration that this poor little boy had nothing to do with all this mess so that is why we are trying to pull money to help out this poor boy's family to give him a nice burial. To help this little angel.

By the way, for anyone wanting more information, the news stories have the last name spelled differently; "Cardenas" rather than "Cardinas." That's why I initially found nothing.
