Question fumes are killing me need help

hey guy's after 6 months i finally got to drive my 510 rotary power wagon. the car has a 13b with a sidedraft carb. with rb headers . well i was driving my car for a couple of blocks when i smell the fumes it was pretty bad i had to pull over and open all the windows. the fumes were real bad. I though of ripping out the carpet and putting dynomat or dynoliner, will that help or will it be just a waste of money, can anyone help. My kid loves this car, but the fumes scare me so. I don't want her in this car until i fix the problem.

If its that bad are you sure you don't have an exhaust leak? or maybe running too rich? I had the same problem on my 66 Mustang. When i first bought the car it had a 750cc carb. I swapped it with a 650 and the problem went away. But was also getting a ton of soot on the back of my car too.

type of carb you running and where is the OMP connected to?
exhaust leak under the car?
muffler's tip: before or below the rear bumper?

I have a feeling that the fumes/exhaust is leaking the cabin via rear hatch/bumper holes. Try extending the tip flush to the rear bumper.

A rotary does not "normally" flood the cabin with fumes unless there's a body leak (usually in the back; vacuum pocket draws the fumes in) or an exhaust leak. They do run smellier than modern cars when they've had emissions stripped, but its not 'normal' for it to make the driver's eyes water. The guy in the car behind you, maybe.

With first gens, it's always the first sign your hatch seal is shot. I don't know the 510's body details, but I'm with Wacky here; it's leaking in from somewhere. If the exhaust system ends under the body, then the body has to be tight.

k do you think adding dynomat to the entire floor will help, if it dose ill rip all the carpet and just replace it after the dynomat

Not unless it seals up holes. Uf the floor isn't rotted out to where it's leaking air, sealing solid metal with dynomat isnt gonna make a difference. You need to figure out where the hole(s) are, sir.

The seals around the tailight lenses are also common culprits on -7's, possibly other cars have the same issue.

The only way to really stop the fuel smell is put a Cat on the exhaust system. If you already have one, put a new one anyways. A TII cat converter may be ideal for the set up just my.2cents for you.

exhaust leak.

Go under your car and check all the exhaust bolts and flanges, maybe the exhaust gaskets are burnt up or bolts are loose.

Even a normal stock fc with exhaust leak will smell as bad as a race car..

Almost gurantee its a exhaust leak.

My car has no emissions, no cats, and no exhaust leaks. So when Im in my car I dont smell the horror. However the people behind me smell it.

Its common sense, if your exhaust is not leaking, you shouldnt smell it.

Its got to be an exhaust leak. Even if you're sitting at a stop light you shouldn't be able to smell your car at all. This is a really simple fix as well, much easier than replacing seals. However replacing a seal is never a bad idea, so I'm not saying not to do that. To check for an exhaust leak, prop the car up on some jack stands in the garage, start the engine, and grab a flash light and shine it up and down the exhaust system under the car. If you see smoke, it will show up very easily in the flashlight's beam. If you find a leak, take it to an exhaust shop and tell them its leaking.
