the max numbers for HC on a N/A 88 were:

15mph
HC
121

25mph
96

anyone know the new numbers for other years or where they are posted? i'll have to put on new cats to even come close.

failed twice, and had to buy a snorkel / air box and pre cats.

thanks for the link smog guy. i called the dmv in late 2008 asking for the smog pass values. she claimed there was no source i could look up, and the values varied by county.

the max numbers for HC on a N/A 88:

OLD / NEW
15mph
HC
121 / 85

25mph
96 / 67

CO
.76 / .54
.65 / .45

NO
807 / 565
746 / 522

all max values were reduced about 30%. good luck to us.

Just like I said... I didn't mean to scare anyone, just tryin to give a heads up. It's gettin tough out there. Even for smog techs... In a way it's more work but it's also going to make everything a little more difficult

if you so happen to fail by a lot or by a few numbers the DMV is also offering a $500 credit for low income people on repairs or anything related to passing smog they have the green application available at the front desk at any DMV so i think there is some hope for some or most of us..... so fail smog fill out application, get a new cat, ox sensor, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter on CA's wallet and add more to the deficit while you still get two more years on driving dirty....

^correct... if you are directed to a "test only" station you automatically qualify for state assistance and they pay the first 500$ to get your car repaired.. just ask for a CAP application, mail it in, and wait for your receipt and take it to a Gold Shield station and they will explain everything you need to know.

It is a great program and its about time you take some of the states money and put it towards your car

I talked to a owner of a gold shield station.. he told me that whenever someone comes in with "CAP credits" they just work up the repair cost $500 more than it should be... Don't know if he was bsing or not, made me laugh.

funkjaw that guy was bs you big time, i work at a Gold shield station and the BAR keeps us on check, they are super strict when it come to CAP cars.

They will not pay for anything unless you can give them proof of it failing and it MUST show improvement after every repair... also we can only put on one (maybe two) repairs at a time, once it passes... that's it, they stop paying there

Basically I went to a local shop near my house to get it smogged. He failed me saying I was missing the precat (rx7store DP), main cat (new Bonez high flow), and intake (Pettit, this one was obvious). He even pulled up a page of what looked like the service manual. Suprised me to say the least. On top of that my HCs were high for both tests:

15mph
HC (PPM)
61 max
27 ave
92 meas

25mph
37 max,
18 ave,
100 meas
I found a magnaflo cat for $140.00 and it cured my HC number in San Diego but it looks like the max numbers up there are more strick
