Frickin Smog

I keep getting flagged for not having the precat and stock air box (I no longer have these parts either).

Anyone got these lying around that they wanna sell?

Who knows to look for a precat? The main one is all you need to pass the Cali smog test. Anyways, I PM'd you on how you can get your smog situation resolved, legally.

Flagged is probably the wrong word, wasn't the cops or anything.

Basically I went to a local shop near my house to get it smogged. He failed me saying I was missing the precat (rx7store DP), main cat (new Bonez high flow), and intake (Pettit, this one was obvious). He even pulled up a page of what looked like the service manual. Suprised me to say the least. On top of that my HCs were high for both tests:

15mph
HC (PPM)
61 max
27 ave
92 meas

25mph
37 max,
18 ave,
100 meas

Seriously..almost NO shops bitch about precats. As long as there's a main cat they don't care...intake you kinda do gotta get your airbox on..or an HKS intake since they're CARB legal.

ya know.. if you would've tried smogging your car a month ago it probably would've passed,... besides your visual part. As of 2 weeks ago all cars from 76-95 got theyre max allowable emission cutpoiunts lowered by a good chunk.. I say 30-50% on average.

Sux big time for those of you trying to make ur car pass legally, you all just got bent over even further, theyre really trying to get cars off the road now

that ******* sucks man! I didn't know about that. How can they even do that? I can see them upping the standards for new cars but for old cars that weren't made to meet those requirements initially. Just seems wrong

Last year my motor had totally blown oil seals, and throttle response was garbage.

A muffler shop welded in a fresh cat, I replaced the oxygen sensor and defective EGR valve, changed the oil change and plugs, and the car still passed, legally.

So unless your motor is even more messed up than mine was, the new smog parameters shouldn't be an issue.

The new Magnaflow and the labor to weld it in between the stock cat pipes, as well as an extended metal oxygen supply tube - so as not to melt the rubber air line - was $180. The oxygen sensor was $40

I don't remember how much the new EGR valve was. I have the receipt in my RX-7 receipts file, but I don't want to see it, because I bought a brand new one. I consciously make an effort to actually forget how much all my FD stuff cost. I'm sure you can get a working used EGR valve from another forum member.
