Question FEELER: CA Ventura County Drift event (where's the scene)

Looking to start drift events in the Ventura area.
This is not something that is going down 100% for sure.
I want to see what kind of response I get.
Hopefully enough peeps show some serious interest and we can make this happen.

I would like the event to be held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds parking lot, so that people that are unaware of this sliding madness called drifting can be exposed to it, but that is a long shot.

What is really possible though is an event at the Camarillo Airport. I know that there have been drift events there, but if I haven't been to one, I'd say there aren't enough.

So hit me up, either here or myspace or my e-mail.
Help is also welcome!!! Do it for the cause. I don't want to have to go out to the streets and get caught red handed, drifting in front of a cop again.

Camarillo airport is real strict about drifting, that's why you don't see so many events there.

Have you ever even been to a drift event? Why not go to a 626Drift or JustDrift event at the Balcony and start there? Its cheap and about an hour & a half from the Nard.

i've spectated many Formula D events, and i've gone to a balcony event hosted by Touge Cheeks [Drift Social] which kicked ***.

the whole point tho is that sometimes people like me just want to practice w/o having to drive like 2 hours to get there

i want it to be way grassroots status and super cheap
we'll see what happens

Update/Bump March 31 10:30pm
A nice amount of responses have been posted so I started makin some call today 'round 3 this afternoon

Lets start w/ the bad i guess. I contacted the Jim Hall Kart school, they have a track like 3 mins. from my house and they said..... no
I then e-mail Saugus Speedway and they said they stopped hosting motorsports in like '95 and their insurance doesn't cover it these days.

The pending I guess u could say is...
Camarillo airport is down, buuuuuuttt... from all of the drift events that were held last year, some of the chevrons and lanes painted on the runway were like gone, so they are disscussing whether or not to continue hosting these things. Im going to try to see if maybe the events could be pre-planned and that way they could see if its worth it to them seeing as how repainting the lines cost moneyz.
I'm still waiting for a response for V.C. Fairgrounds. I called like 20+ phone #'s they had listed on their site(actually more like 4) but the guy in charge of that stuff wasn't there. So I sent them an e-mail and I'm still waiting for the response.

Let us pray cuz V.C. is unlikely and Camarillo is now up in the air.

Update/Bump April 1st 11:30pm(more like april 2nd 12:00am
More legitimate bad news straight from the peeps down in "we don't have a street racing problem" land

The fairgrounds person that contacted me back was totally unaware of what i meant by drifting. Anyways they said no.

So if anyone knows of any local would-be venues in the ventura/camarillo/oxnard are located pm me or post a reply on the thread. I've already got some support from a body shop that i used to work at, so don't lose hope.
Need help!!!

Camarillo Airport needs to come through.

Still no venue for sure. But some good news!? You might ask how could you have good news w/o even having a venue. Well lets just say I talked to some people about this idea, and making it happen, and we are going to do this 99.9% for sure. Well maybe 98% but what ever. There are some small problems we still need to look at but I'm on it.

Thanks to everyone that responded and letting me know that they are down. Hopefully I can kill this thread w/ its "feeler" non-sense and make a real event thread soon.

Still need other possible venues. We can't put all our hopes into the airport.

Update... May 11th 9:30pm
SOooooo yeah, lets see. Sorry i haven't updated this thing in a loooong time. after the constant nay saying and negative responses from places like the Camarillo airport and stuff i kind put it on the bottom of my list of tasks.

Thanks to steve tho for letting me know that u guys are still talking about it.
So i called the Santa Barbara Airport today and they said no. Straight up, no bs, which was nice in a way because they weren't like eh maybe and transferred me over to like 20+ people to get a straight answer.

Im going to call the Camarillo aiport one more time tomorrow. But the last time i talked with them they were asking for an outrageous amount of cash, i mean it'd be better to rent the balcony.

Venue venue venue... still searching

BTW. I think i should make the idea clear of what kind of event i wanna put together.
I'm thinking it should be affordable, somewhere in the $70-90 range, maybe $100 buuuut... yea. Spectator seating would be nice, if not then a spectator area would work just as well. And i don't want it to be the only one we put together, it'd be nice to have a little drift event going on out here in the 805 every once in a while.
