Exhaust Ticket
Anyone in SF Bay know where someone could get a ticket signed off without having to swap back to the stocker every time they get a ticket? Or do I have to pay bail forfeiture every time I don't feel like switching? Btw, just received a ticket on Saturday night. Anyone ever get away from CHP without a ticket? Every time they have pulled me over, they hit me with something. Cops and Sheriff have been cool to me, but CHP has always been dicks.

Here is what to do.
Go to the DMV, Buy the newest vehicle code book. Should be aprox. $5. Read up on the code on which you recieved a ticket. The number is written on the ticket. Easy to find.
It states that a vehicle must be equiped with an adaquate exhaust system, DOES NOT HAVE TO BE OEM. But must remain under 95Dcb. 95Dcb. is LOUD. I know our Rx7s can be extremely loud, but. He must have proof. Just like a speeding ticket. Now he doesnt need a radar to tell how far you are driving.....but he has taken special classes to learn this. He has not however had the proper training to tell how mant dcb. an exahust system is, not did he have a issued Dcb. meter. Take this Vehicle code book with you to court & read it to the judge. Tell him what I have just told you.
You will win. I have had 3 Modified exhaust tickets thrown out in court.

You are semi-correct.
27150. (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all
times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and
properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and
no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass,
or similar device.

It doesn't matter if the cop did not test the noise level. That is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to have the testing done. If you get the testing done, then you can take the results to court and the judge can dismiss the ticket. Then you can carry that piece of paper around with you to show law enforcment that it is legal.
27150.2. (a) Stations providing referee functions pursuant to
Section 44036 of the Health and Safety Code shall provide for the
testing of vehicular exhaust systems and the issuance of certificates

for a violation of Section 27150 or 27151.
(b) A certificate of compliance for a vehicular exhaust system

and 27151 if they emit no more than 95 dbA when tested in accordance
with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998.
(c) An exhaust system certificate of compliance issued pursuant to
subdivision (a) shall identify, to the extent possible, the make,
model, year, license number, and vehicle identification number of the
vehicle tested, and the make and model of the exhaust system
installed on the vehicle.
(d) The station shall charge a fee for the exhaust system
certificate of compliance issued pursuant to subdivision (a). The
fee charged shall be calculated to recover the costs incurred by the
Department of Consumer Affairs to implement this section. The fees
charged by the station shall be deposited in the Vehicle Inspection
and Repair Fund established by Section 44062 of the Health and Safety

Hey thanks, Fu. If I was in SoCal, I'd be totally up for that. Do you ever write people up for illegal mods? I know every time a cop has asked me to pop the hood, as soon as they see I don't have a cone filter under there, they pretend to look around and then let me close it. Although, I don't have any mods under the hood, really. What I need to get is some of my friends to become cops. Did you become a cop so you could mod your 7 and not get hassled?

Thanks for the replies guys...now what if I want to get the exhaust tested for compliance? Where do you go to get that done and what exactly do they look for to determine if it is legal? Do they just test the volume level?
