i didn't boost it until i got it on the dyno with almost no load; running off the wastegate.
i'm not putting you on blast. I need a turbo, this one is bad.

all these bolts on the housing were really loose after I inspected the turbo on the dyno.

I tightened all of them to the right specs and the turbo was still smoking substantially.

Also, there was no snapring holding on the wastegate arm, so I ran it disconnected which means there is no physical way it could overboost.

these are the same pictures he sent me when i was looking for a turbo. (without the arrows, of course.)

Wait if you ran it disconnected wouldn't that mean the wastegate would remain closed thus cause overboost?

Not to take sides but you did put him on blast considering you bolded his name.

How bad is it leaking oil? Is it like eating quarts?

Well if it wasn't eating quarts I'd say you could probably run it and just keep filling your oil. That is if it is otherwise good to go. but I guess its too late now.

it was dripping a good amount of oil onto the exhaust mani and smoking a lot, didn't want to catch the car on fire or anything.

I ended up driving to colton and getting another turbo. drove to willowsprings at 5am and swapped out everything and made the last few practice sessions of the day and re-tuned the car on the track pretty much. drove all day sunday and the car rips now!

turbo was bought as-is, live and learn. that's how it goes.
