driving on the freeway?? Slow down!!!
I was driving to work this morning on the 57 freeway between the 10 and 60. I noticed two white cars on the side of the road. I couldn't tell what cars they were because they were far away. I instinctively slowed down. I was going 71 before I downshifted and I slowed down to about 63mph.
I got closer and noticed that they were two white CHP Crown Victorias without the roof lights. I saw two officers standing behind the cars and pointing their radars at traffic. I then saw about 4 black and white CHP cars and one bike parked about a 1/4 mile ahead of those guys.
All, but one of the cars had someone stopped. The one CHP car that didn't have someone pulled over got into traffic and looked like he wanted to pull me over, but I guess he just paced me for a few seconds and took off after another car.
They might be cracking down on speeders this month so watch out.
I'm just glad I was actually driving slow compared to the other cars on the freeway this morning.

They have those "crackdowns" around here (530) as well, though they are completely random and the majority of us don't know about it until we read about the CHP and local department stopping several cars.

I talked to my wife and they had something similar on the 10 fwy last week. Is this something new? I have never seen that before in So Cal and I've been driving since 1997. Maybe I've been lucky?
I heard somewhere that speed traps were illegal. I know you shouldn't believe everything you hear, but is there some truth to this?

"I heard somewhere that speed traps were illegal."
They are. But what was described isn't exactly how a speed trap is defined in the Vehicle Code although it comes damn close to it. For an officer to introduce radar evidence, he has to be wearing a "distinctive uniform" and be in a "distinctively market vehicle (read black and white) as defined by the commissioner (of the highway patrol). I would think a plain white car isn't exactly distinctively marked, but the actual arresting in this case are.
It would be interesting to see how this situation would stand up in court with a lawyer that knows his stuff as this particular proceedure sure looks like it is standing in shades of grey. Sounds like they are standing on similar ground as aerial enforcement.

Thanks for the heads up, thats right along my commute.
Also, white CHPs with only the logos on driver / passenger side door with their Ka band tagging people on the 210, just west of the 15.

Wouldn't think CHP would give a **** unless you're doing something really stupid!
I got PASSED by a CHPer on the freeway...
I was pacing another car, and we were both doing about 90mph.
The CHPer had just jumped on the freeway from an onramp and proceeded to blast by both of us...no sirens, no nothing.
Local sheriffs...now that's another story!
Local revenue and all...
If it wasn't obvious, it IS holiday season.
I have this feeling it has a little to do with DUI?
Locally down here, road blocks are plentiful this time of season.
Even when I was living in Sac, I didn't see a single CHP speed trap up there...and that's the CHP's backyard.
