Drift/autocross this weekend at Thunderhill

Mmmk well ya'll remember the drift event I participated in at Thunderhill recently? Here's some pics of me in my GTU.

Well my classmate Geoff and an instructor, Jerry, from the motorsports class were the organizers for that event.

If anyone has any questions feel free to give them a call...

Jerry Shaha, S.A.S. Racing (530) 877-1223
SASracing@netzero.com
Geoff Pitts, P.D.E. Motorsports (530) 559-2554
ConePirate@aol.com

They've put together a drift on Saturday and an Autocross this sunday. Here's a post from his thread on Norcal240sx forum.

Come early to get a tech inspection before the 8:00am drivers meeting, or call me for a pre-tech. If nothing else, I can email you the registration papers so you can have them filled out when you arrive at the track. It will be a ton of fun guaranteed! a bunch of dudes from the eureka touring club will be at the event, as well as many butte college auto-tech and motorsports students.

P.S. IMPORTANT NOTE!!! there will be a special race group at the end of the day for cars equipped with space-saver spares on all 4 corners.... so go to the junkyard and get some space-savers! they're practically giving them away, and it will be a fun race for sure. All driver, with no help from a prepared car! SEE YOU THERE!

I have attached pictures from last year's event below... thats me in the ITA RX7.[/Quote]

How much hp's required to perform a drift... forget suspension and all that good stuff... And im not talking about powersliding... Actually kicking into a drift..

at least 200WHP without having to abuse the drivetrain too much.

Actually I'd say initiating a drift depends most on the available grip. Lots of the guys were using space-savers on weak cars and they could kick the rear end out whenever they wanted.

Initiating a drift depends on the grip of the tires on your drive-wheels. Even low-powered cars can drift easily if they run space-savers. The next best thing if you have enough power, or hardly any grip, is to have a good strong clutch to clutch-kick with and shock the tires loose.

yeah the space saver idea is good, less tire will aid in losing traction but for stock size tires more horsepower is better. not that sidestepping the clutch doesn't work it just beats up the drivetrain more than just getting it to slip under its own power.

Hey Drifterinos,
Thunderhill Drift-101 is thinking of having an event on DEC-31ST-2006. This would be an all-day, super-fun drift event. The event may not happen though, unless we get some positive input that people want to do this on newyear's eve-day. So are any of you interested? If you want to see what the event will be like, check out this YouTube video, it is a compilation from our innagural event at Thunderhill. The video was made not by us, but by the FREEMODE dudes (maybe you've heard of them). They are a car-club out of sac, and they're members took up like 80% of our total attendance. Ask any of them, they'll tell you they had a blast! If you are interested in more info regarding the event, contact:

Tell em NAR sent you!
