CA Change in plans...LOL

i finally got to talk to a rep from UTI(Universal Technoligies Institute) and it seem that all the classes i want to take are in Sacramento. I had originaly pland to move to Pheoinx but as it turns out they only have 1 of the courses i want to take.... so looks like im moving to Sacramento come Sep. i have not been to that area in years. what shops are there for my FD? what car shows do they have there? what meet-ups are there?

For quite a few people I have talked to they say that if you are going to UTI get into one of the dealership/manufacturer programs otherwise you'll struggle to find a job afterwards.

ok here it goes, the uti bashing. I think what SMOGSUX is trying to say is, If your a underachiever, lazy, dont care to learn, enjoy just getting by, dont listen to teachers , have no common sense, ect then dont go to uti or any school period you will never make it anywhere, on the other hand if you are the complete opposite oh everything I just listed you will do fine and dealerships will come to you asking if you want to work for them. Thats is if you go into a manufacture program. The bottom line yeah 10-20% of uti grads will be successful, the other 80% well they will go back to moms house, community college, jiffy lube or just keep using drugs like they were doing in school. Just to let you know though, the automotive industry is pretty rough right now in this economic struggle.

Like I said the dealership programs lol. I will say that there is probably cheaper ways to go about getting into the industry but as fc3stech says its all about not being lazy, just like everything in life.

yeah i went to uti and they did not help me at all to find a job lols. however i took the basic program and ive had a few dealerships i applied at want to hire me. to make the story short i purposfully took a lower paying job because this shop is crazy expierienced at damn near every thing. i do everything from service writing to tech to food runs haha. basically im starting small to go big but uti did not get me in the door, my previous work history did and the owner made it very clear.

oh by the way i was the guy with the black fc that had savvanah written on the side of it. dont ask.

hmmm from what ive been recently been looking into, the automotive industry is pretty rough, but when it comes to hybrids and pure electric cars, thats adifferent story.... just went to JUNGLE MOTORS in San Juan Cap. today to check out a few of there electric conversion cars... they are pretty impressive and look promising.. they had a posrche fully converted to electric with a 5 speed transmission..

they explained different prices for different set ups... fore example, a AC electric motor that can go 100mph + can cost up to 25K and a cheaper DC motor that can do 90mph tops can cost 10k.....

these cars will be the future and will soon be the talk of the automotive industry... im pretty interested in this technology and im thinking about taking classes and courses to be come a tech for this type of vehicle...

The Sears guy wasn't that smart. But my buddy finally got a job at Ford months later and was shortly laid of later. he is super motivated and really smart. He's like a genius when it comes to V8s (he's a diesel mech) and has built motors for himself and such. But yeah...UTI didn't do **** for him.

Oh and hes still dumbfounded by my wankel

Another UTI basher here

I went there, was in the top 3 in all of my classes, got SOC a few times, etc... yet once I graduated they didn't give a **** anymore.

I suggest avoiding the Sacramento campus like the plague and go to their main campus in Arizona. The one here is overcrowded, only 3 good instructors work there, the rest of the staff is a joke and if you have any problems with anything while your going there they prolong the process of dealing with it until it's too late to do anything about your problem.

Long story short, I took the Toyota dealer course ( thank goodness it fell through as I would not want to be an employee of theirs right now ) and was the top student of the entire 9 week course. Graduated and everything fell apart. They finally found me a dealer that would do my externship after 3 months of me hassling the dumb blonde broads that are in charge of job's at the school to get my paperwork straight for the dealers. I was told $15 an hour starting and it's a 45 minute drive each way to the dealer from where I live. Sound's pretty good right? Well, I get there and they will only pay $10 and say that i'm lucky to get that much, I quit after 2 day's of theyre bullshit and have not talked to anyone at the Sacramento UTI campus since then which was about 7-8 months ago at the least.

Guess it was a long story after all haha.

So yeah, go to the Arizona school and get a real degree as the one in Sacramento all you get is a little certificate and no degree like you get at their main Arizona campus.

I'm $32k in debt and thankfully have a few hookup's with my dad and his friends and will be opening a new shop just for high end automotive work and my kind of automotive work on the side, otherwise i'd be screwed like everyone else that went to UTI.

One last thing though, the "weak" local meet's are weak because the local's make it that way. Try setting up a meet and having at least half of the people on the list of people who are going to show up actually show up...

I will be holding local meet's at my new shop at least once a month which will hopefully be in the next few weeks if the stupid city would actually use their brain for a change.

ok heres the deal.... im retiring after 20yrs in the navy... so i know what hard work is. i dont need UTI to find me a job...BUT every little bit helps. i just need to learn about the cars and yes im taking both toyota and nissan which the AZ campus doesnt have. Im also going to the collision repair which the AZ campus doesnt have... im going where the things i need take me as long as i get the education then ill call it good. As for finding a job ill go where that takes me as long as its on the west cost...LOL thats alot of the problem with jobs not many people are willing to move. so for now ill take my 9$ an hr part time job for the xtra money while im going to school.

uti is only good for the dealership programs. i went, just did the basic program meet alot of really cool teachers didnt really learn anymore than what i knew but some stuff was clarified.

one piece of advice dont go during the day, the classes are oversized and its just a bunch of kids. do the night classes you will learn more the teachers are better and the classes are smaller. yeah its a few extra months but well worth it if your trying to learn something.

I want to thank everybody for the in-put that has been given. I know I more than likely won’t start in the job that I really want but you have to start somewhere right. For those of you that are wanting to start shops I would really love to talk to you cause I plan to start one also...at a later date of course... need to pay my dues first right...LOL i love the import scene or I guess what it used to be and would love to try and help pull it back to its former glory. I’m not prejudice when it comes to cars.... I see potential in just about any thing... but for now I’m willing to work and get more experience..... So keep me in mind if you need bodies to start up your shop.

been doing alot of reading and looking up things while im out here on the water and its given me alot to think about along with what some of you guys have been saying.... i have read alot of reviews and articals on UTI and WYOTech and they are both starting to get alot of bad press. at first i was thinking maybe it was some students that had a bad expiriance " which happens" then some of the former teachers where saying so of the same things. i have no idea what school to go to.. ive been looking around and everybody says they are the best....i love the south west az,nv,ca it really doesnt matter. i just want to get the best education for my money. i want to learn and be apart of something bigger than myself.
