Car insurance agents in da hawse???

Last Saturday @ 2AM, my neighbor's cars along with my DD were "hit & run" by a drunk driver. The following day, we found the wrecked vehicle a few blocks away and it was impounded. Charges to filed by the DA to the driver this week.

I have questions if I should claim to my insurance or wait for the outcome. I dont feel like paying my $500 deductible.

As usual, Im sure this will be bombarded by the local postwhores. So if possible, please PM me for advise or your #.

thanks

I'm not an insurance agent wan. I was a claims adjuster and now I'm an underwriter.

If you don't feel like paying your deductible, I would try to get a hold of his insurance carrier. The police report, if there is one, will usually have his insurance info on page one.

If he didn't have insurance at the time of the loss, you may still be good. Your insurance will pay for the repairs using your collision coverage and they will use your "CDW" coverage to waive your deductible. Your insurance company will have to investigate if the car was not insured at the time of the loss before they will waive your deductible.

It's your call on how fast you want this resolved.

edit: Just so you know, I'm finally done yanking it in front of wan's bushes.
2nd edit: Verify if you have CDW or some sort of uninsured motorist property damage coverage on your policy.----On policies that have collision, this coverage will waive your deductible if the car/person was uninsured at the time of loss and if the other party was at fault.

thanks for the advise and pretty much similar to prior advises that I received. I called LAPD during lunch and they told me that it could take at least 3months to get everythign sorted out due to similar pending cases. So, I reported it to my insurance and Im waiting for the adjuster's call. I will just bite the bullet and claim it a loss somewhere else when I do my taxes. The DUI guy's SUV is pretty new so Im 90% sure he has insurance.

If you pay your deductible now, you may get it back after a few months. Most insurance companies will subrogate their loss and your deductible from the claimant or claimant carrier.

Again, you may get it back after a while.

I have a CDW and Uninsured plus car rental ($20/day). So I may not need to pay my deductible.. I will check with the adjuster to confirm.

thanks again

added pix. Imagine how fast that idiot was going when he smacked a 69 el camino to the sidewalk?

nope but my son woke me up. 10 minutes later, we followed the trail of coolant but it disappeared 3 blocks before AM-PM. This was at 2:45 AM in a newly re-paved asphalt whcih made it very difficult plus no street lights.

He side swiped a 4door accord parked behind the el camino. At that time, I guess he tried to control it as he missed the driver side mirror and almost hit the car parked across the street (scratched on the driver side front bumper). He turned the steering wheel to avoid it but smacked the el camino in the rear. Pushed it to the sidewalk with the pointy bumper and nose cone landing in my accord.

He then backed out but since he was rushing to get out of the scene, slammed on the gas and then kaboom, he sliced el camino's driver side door (like a can opener)
