How often does your type of vehicle fail smog tests? See answer here | The Sacramento Bee

If you do a keyword search for MAZDA RX7, you can see the RX7 results for all years. What was interesting for me, my year 1994, only had a 14% failure rate. I would have thought it would be closer to 25%. And you look at the 1982 MY RX7s, with an amazing 41% failure rate.

I just passed my smog on a swapped 2nd gen and barely passed at 85 HC's. One more and it would have failed. I had tons of room to pass on all other fronts.

My first gen just barely passed CA smog. I had no problem with the sniffer test, but the visual was what failed me on my first attempt because my cat didnt have a CARB EO number stamped on it. Friggen bullshit. This dumb law that got in effect January 2009 should not apply to us since our cars were manufactured way before. I bought a new cat to replace a perfectly good working one with the proper EO number, and the smog tech who didn't know jack about rotaries was still iffy to pass my car.

That's why I've been going to the same place for years. At least they know me and I know them and what to expect from each other. All legit.
