A/C Noob needs help

Greetings All,

I've just finished reading through the Air Conditioning thread and am looking forward to driving around with my windows up. So I hop in the car and purchase the R152 from Office Depot. Along with that, I head over to Autozone and purchase the AC/Pro R134a Kit.

Here's my dilemma, I'm melting and just want to throw something in to get the A/C functional. I don't have a can tap for the R152 and I'm figuring R134a will be a mistake.

Anyone in the Wildomar/Temecula area that can lend a hand?

Cheers,
Bull

Never mind...

I got in contact with Lucky7 and they pointed me in the direction of a reputable shop in Covina. They carry R12 too.

Next week I'll swing by there to get my system inspected and serviced. Of course I'll bring a bucket of cash since I was quoted $100 a pound for the R12.

Cheers,
Bull

Associated has the R12 and they used it to test my system. Too bad mine has leaks all over the place.

They are located on Barranca.

Cheers,
Bull

They may try to talk you into an R134 conversion.

Walnut Air - Home Have gone there for years, so they know RX7's

But I discovered this place in Fullerton. Very good prices, and have not had to go back after 2 years. Auto Air Conditioning & Heating | Anaheim, CA

I'll look into them both.

Why not just retrofit to R134a? All you'd have to do is flush out the old oil and install the 134 fittings over your current ones. A lot cheaper considering the price of r12

I'll probably do the conversion but I do have some concerns. Some of the research that I've read has R134a not being able to sufficiently cool the car with the size of the condenser.

In any case, this all has to be put on hold until I can source out a compressor, condenser and dryer. All of mine have leaks.

Cheers,
Bull

Compressor I have, new one (try and find another one) I keep on the shelf.

Condenser, take yours to a radiator shop for repair.

Dryer, autozone or any other parts store since it needs to be new.

And, to compensate for the R134a you need to do what you can to move more air. First up, a new fan clutch.
