cali plates

I just moved here recently and there is something really bugging me. What is the deal with cars/bikes around here not having license plates? I see it all the time... mostly with nicer cars though. Is there some way you can legally drive without a license plate or do they just have enough money to keep paying the tickets and not worry about it?

You'll see stickers in their rear windows. They are usually:

New cars waiting for their plates

or

Used cars where the previous owner kept his personalized plates of the owner ordered personalized plates and is waiting for them to come in.

I know what you're talking about ... I see it all of the time here on the west side and in Beverly Hills / Hollywood. It's disproportionately observed on quite expensive cars and I think it just has to do with money, celebrity, and not caring. I don't know why the Man seems to disregard them because they clearly do. I moved from another state where every newly purchased car was issued a 30-day paper tag and cars without some sort of noticeable documentation were very rare.

Yea i dont see how there could be that many newly purchased cars on the road... and I don't remember seeing any stickers or other vehicle identification whatsoever. I have to agree with the money, celebrity, and not caring. It just seems odd to me.

i say it depends on your luck. if you're lucky you can run a plate and usually not have trouble. but it shows you live in long beach... over here we have public safety vehicles which drive around all day and look for expired tags and no front plates unless you have the proper paper work... be carefull but it usually will be a fix it ticket for front plates...

$50 for fix it ticket for no front plate, IIRC. Actually it's ~$30, but then you have to hunt down an officer to sign off on the new plate. After a little frustration I paid the $50. This was in Nor Cal, btw. Never got a ticket for it in So Cal before that.

Damn mine was like $15 and I took it off right after getting it signed off. If it were $50 I might think twice about leaving it on

Well I never see people running around with nothing at all in nor cal. If anything new cars have the dealer paper license plate while they wait for their plate in the mail. Guess it has something to do with the rich in so-cal?

Has nothing to do with the rich. Has everything to do with the poor gov't workers.
