Buttonwillow track day after Seven Stock, Sept. 28!

I personally would not feel comfortable running my car at Buttonwillow in 100F+ ambient temp without adding a 2nd oil cooler, underdriving my water pump, and stuffing my radiator gaps. Reason I say this is because I have data showing inadequate oil cooling under all-out driving at about 250 whp level on a 65-70F ambient day. If I did take it out with you guys I would probably have to run 1 cooldown lap for every 3 hot ones. I also noticed my brakes starting to fade a bit after about 15 minutes. Mind you this was on a semi-tight track (CA speedway). Next year I will dump more money into the car, and go back to the track, but right now I really don't feel like spending money if you know what I mean.
I just don't want people running off to the track like it's no big deal, because it is. Most cars were not engineered to safely run on a racetrack--at least not out of the box (high end cars excluded of course). In all seriousness, have a good time and take care of your car, it sure is a looker. I'll have to take a ride in it when you finish. at some point in the future I'm going to do a V8-FD swap myself
It's not that bad, just keep yourself hydrated and you'll be fine. Once you're through the first corner you won't even notice it.
If it gets too hot, go relax in the A/C'd lunch area until your run group is next.
Bring an EZ up if you can.

Well it's not just me getting hot...it"s mainly about my motor which I guess is inevitable anyway. Hopefully I pick up this Koyo Rad from one of the mbrs here and I"ll be all set.
^^^ oh sweet...ok. Im flushing my rad this Fri and picking this stuff up for sure. How much of this should I use/bring with me? And why distilled water? Can this be mixed with Coolant?

^Distilled water w/ water wetter has the best cooling properties. You run coolant so it won't freeze up during normal cold weather. You want distilled water because you don't want the water to evaporate and leave deposits.
BTW, my FD won't be ready in time. Can I bring the STi out with you guys?

Sure, but I heard the 07-08 STI has an ECU recall, so you better get that done before going, here's a post from a member on the HPDE forums after he ran his STI:
"I hope Cathy has better luck with her Subaru. My engine is heading for a tear down. Turbo looks shot, possible head gasket, and #4 injector shot at the moment. They will also be performing a compression test on each cylinder. I was told at least 2 more weeks this morning…
With that, after extensive research on the 08 STI, the problems I have are showing up on the 08’s as well. If you know of any 08 STI’s at your track events, I would be curious as to their experiences?
The community consensus is that Subaru is having a hard time meeting the new CAFÉ standards and as a result the ECU Map from the factory is less than stellar. Detonation is an ongoing problem with many of the 08’s…"
I'm actually thinking about going to STREETS on Friday instead, since it's only $95... who's with me?

Just run 80/20 and a couple of bottles of this stuff. Make sure you have extra hoses and your undertray is on. Also, try picking up some foam tape from Lowes to plug up any "cracks" between the radiator to help with the ducting...
Hey pro am,
Did I see you getting on the 134 in Glendale at San Fernando the other day? Car looked nice. I flashed you a thumbs up from my motorcycle but you were already turning so I'm not sure you saw me. Anyways, that's right next to work for me.
You should show up at the track day to check it out regardless if you plan to drive. It's looking like that's what I'll be forced to do as assuming I even get my car mobile I'm not going to have time to shake it down.

PS I don't recommend 0% coolant as it functions as lubrication in addition to anti-freezing properties. Water Wetter is good stuff though

Man I want to do this so bad, but I need not spend anymore money that weekend. I might stop by on my way back to Portland, Oregon. I don't see any RX on the list has everyone dropped out?

Oh yeah lol..that was probably me. Was it in the Morning??? Yeah man thx
a lot to get it where it is.
Yeah, I'll just show up then...support some of the guys out there running it that day. I dont think I have any other plans that following day anyhow. Hit me up if u roll.
So from what im gathering, I should run coolant, water wetter AND distilled water? Shouldnt be a problem. Is this gonna b ok???
Most people that do track days use a mix of coolant and distilled water. 30% coolant to 70% water. Some people also use water wetter and other products of that nature and some people have had mixed results with that stuff. Coolant/anti-freeze also has certain chemicals that help to keep the water pump properly lubricated IIRC.

Anyways, the more I think about it, the more I want to go to Streets instead of BW... Especially since I'll be saving $75 (discount deadline was the 31st) and I think Streets would be a first good event for the FD.

^^Arsinal4496: There's usually a caravan that starts off the 5north, I cant remember the exit but it's at a chevron gas station. It might pop off again this year..most of em are SFV heads.
I just broke my brake master cylinder this wknd so I might not run this Fri's track day, but instead maybe on the 26th I'll cruise down and check yall out.

Dang, I didn't realize the track day was coming up so fast... It's going to be close, but I should still be able to make it. I still need: new radiator hoses, race tires to arrive, install rear sway bar, set ride height, get alignment, work on ducting, make a track hood, and flog the **** out of it to see if it doesn't overheat.
I also purchased a brake/clutch pressure bleed kit, so in order to offset the cost, you guys will be free to have unlimited use for the day after forking over a few bucks
This is the best way to bleed the brakes, especially with us guys with ABS. Just pump it to 1 bar, crack open a bleeder valve and it just pushes all the fluid/air out
