Karack has done everything on my car and I beat the living **** out of it every time I drive it. Just needs some more tuning since I recently put a big turbo on my car. Aiming for 450 rwhp @ 21psi
Upgraded intercoolers are legal in CA, BUTTTTTTTT by doing that you eliminate your stock bypass valve which is illegal. And even if you recirculate an aftermarket bov it's still technically illegal.
If I could go back I would have given up the power hunger that I had to retain a more "legal" looking engine bay. Bnr stage 2 turbo, stock tmic, Meth/water injection, Power FC...etc. Just something to keep it looking legal and getting around 280rwhp.
EDIT: And the thermowax is nice to eliminate due to the car revving up when cold upon startup which is kinda bad for the motor. I wouldn't remove the secondary throttle body butterflies though..maybe MAYBEE get like 1-2 hp at the cost of the car not driving as smooth.

far as ecu and piggy backs goal lookng for somehing that will manage fuel and timing also. Keep in mind I want to stay smog legal as possible. Someone suggested. An arm product but idk if I want to use somehing that more closly relate to gay civics. Lol. This may be ignorant but I don't know a ton about ecus

there's only 2 ECUs that i mentioned that can keep the car smog legal by swapping a few parts around and offer timing adjustments and those are: Rtek 2.0 and the Apexi PowerFC. these are the only 2 that can manage the stock solenoids and air control valve operations, you possibly could also with a really expensive unit like a motech but that's overkill for a relatively simple project.

I thought recirculated BOVs were completely legal. What changes between the stock bypass and a recirculated BOV?
The real gain in deleting the secondary butterflies is with throttle response. As you stated, the HP gain is about the same as sneezing at the air intake to cool the charge for a sec.

APEXi Power FC with Commander (93-95 RX-7)
The Power FC proudly stands as A’PEXi’s answer to the constraints and limitations associated with most piggy-back style fuel controllers.
The Power FC is a complete, stand alone, total engine management system capable of handling virtually anything thrown in its path. From multiple point fuel and ignition control to boost settings, the Power FC is capable of accommodating even the most demanding performance enthusiasts.
The Power FC replaces the factory ECU and controls all vital engine parameters (Off road use only, no OBD-II). Installation is as easy as replacing the factory ECU. (Some minor rewiring is required on select vehicles). The factory engine harness does not need to be replaced and all critical accessories such as air conditioning continue to function. By using the FC Commander, the user can adjust and modify a wide range of settings. Since there is no need to upgrade ROM chips or modify ECU’s, the factory ECU can be kept by the original user.

While technically not smog legal, it evidently is able to control your emissions devices (if I understood Karack correctly). Although it won't ever be found by a smog tech during a smog inspection, I am obligated to say that it is technically smog illegal and should not be used on the street. A state referee would find this computer rather easily. Basically what I'm saying is that it is possible to still pass smog with this computer because if your emissions system is still set up correctly and you have ample catalytic converters, your idle is within scope among a multitude of other things, you can pass smog.

Basically, it plugs right into your factory engine harness with this adapter harness:

I think the fcon is a piggy back trickery type system, but I'm not sure on that. The Haltech from what I've read won't control the emissions systems so even if you have the systems still attached to the car, they won't run, making it that much harder for a rotary to pass the sniffer test. And as always I'm obligated to say that it is illegal and shouldn't be done on a CA road car.... but of course we're not talking about your road car, we're hypothetically speaking only about your dedicated track car passing a CA smog tech.

Dedicated track car. Lol. I think it will be the occasional track car but i would like it to be reliable enough for a good bounding within reasonable range of its limits. Plus upping the power is more stress no matter how much power you are making as long as it is over stock. BTW. How come you keep saying you are obligated to state these things are not smog legal? Lol

the lawmakers just protect themselves from shops doing upgrades incorrectly and polluting the air more than if the car was left untouched, we all know that a well tuned ECU following modifications can keep a car running as cleanly or in some cases cleaner than it originally did when it was new.
i would rather promote modifying a car to run clean than to say rip everything out and smell like a gas station at every stop light. pull the cat off when you track the car and that's it.

smog legal in the fact that it can allow the engine to be visually passable, not visually if they dissect the car for a smog test and find the ECU. smog in california is idiotic, i've run powerFCs through emissions testing burning cleaner than brand new 7's off the delivery truck.

the REAL deal

shoot i have not seen this thread, sorry for not answering, seems like Karack is the man though on this.
i didn't know this was an FC rebuild. My dealings have been with an FD.
The shops I went to:
Gotham Racing in TX 2002...about 6k out the door. I am pretty sure that shop no longer exists.
SPD in San Diego 2006... was going to be about 4500 after I blew an apex seal but the shop burnt.
Neptune in Huntington Beach, CA 2009 ....a little over 5k for a replacement on my current car before I bought it, the water seals had gone bad. This car has awesome compression, the housings were reused.
Thats been my experience with rebuilds, seems like the going rate.
