Question Bought car without smog....

I bought my car without it being smogged first.....The tags are only out dated by a month so it passed last year.....did I make a huge mistake?

Not really, hopefully you used it to bring the price way down. But since you do live in California, it is always a good idea to make sure the car smogs, if it passes smog, its a good sign the engine and associated items are in good condition. Now to get it registered, you need that smog certificate, how you get it depends on you. You should be able to transfer the title over to yourself, but getting it registered with stickers, you need that smog cert.

You can either get an extension or file the car as a non-op for the time being. OR just go get it smogged, not hard to do.

Alright good, cause it was starting to worry me...The car has some problems I dont know the extent yet cause ive only had it for a week. The guy wanted 1500 for it but I talked him down to 1300. I think i got a good deal. Tonight isnt good for me I have to work late. I dont think the car should be driven anyways till I get it tuned.

yeah similar thing happen to me too. But the other way around. The guy bought a car at 12:30AM knowing that it needs smogging. A month and a half later he smog it and it fails. Now he wants his money back for the car???

actually if you feel like being a dick you can sue him for the cost of the smog and any needed repair costs for it to pass smog. in the state of CA it is the responcability of the seller to have the vehicle smog certified at the time of sale. no verbal or written contracts will void that legality.
