The Rotary Gods tried to fail me!

So, as i was leaving my work last night at 5pm. i pull out of the parking lot down this sorta long driveway.

Then Rotarus,*god of the rotary*, sneered at me atop his dark grey cloud and proceeded to strike down my car. It just died while on the driveway.

The power simply faded out of my engine until it puttered and started to shut down. Immediately thinking WTF, I shut my engine off before i stopped rolling, and almost put a crick in my neck as i shot my head towards my oil pressure gauge. But Oil pressure was normal. So that was a good thing. well, i tried to start my car again, and it started to fire up, but died again immediately. 2nd try and basically nothing.

What the heck!?!

When i put my key to the 'ON' position, i heard a thunderous silence. Since i have a walbro 255 in my tank, it is normally quite loud. But this time, i heard nothing.

Are you serious? My fuel pump went bad basically 1 day before sevenstock? The rotary gods are vengeful.

But since i was so close to my work, i ran back and grabbed a digital multimeter and started probing things. after some investigative work and calling up my buddy Danzan, we figured out it wasnt my fuel pump, but my fuel pump relay that went out.

So i pulled my upper body out of the hatch area of the 7 looked up to the skies and gave Rotarus a big 'F YOU' and simply jumped 12v from my battery to my fuel pump to get me to the closest radio shack so i could replace that relay. And now everything is back to normal.

Rotarus: 0
Brismo: +1
Lives of relays lost to support the ls1 cause(in this project): 2...so far

Edit** OH also, a huge thanks to Danzan!

Knock on wood ehh? Maybe I should start carrying a spare.

Motor is in on my car just not much hooked up to it yet. Assuming the first firing goes well it'll be in attendance tomorrow.

Nice Joel!

Yeah, i would carry a spare 12v 30amp in your glove box. Mine were brand new when installed and they still went out. Dan said it was the contact side, because the the actual Clicker of the relay still worked.

i wonder what makes the contacts go bad in a relay?

how long did they each last? was it at 2 random time spans? I've been daily driving my car since june, but i've had the relay on the pump since....i'm not even sure, prolly at least since the begining of the year.

I got some generic 12v 30amp relays at radio shack, does anyone recommend a specific brand or type or relay.

Should i get a JDM mad tyte Drfter Relay? why do the OEM ones last sooo long? Hmmm...

Random. The first one shorted out the looong wire going to the pump, it was rubbing on something and eventually contacted metal.

The second one probably arched to the ground or kissed it and ruined it.

Now I have it securely mounted and each of them individually wrapped so they won't arch. The wires are also securely fastened.

Go to the junkyard and steal some relays off a Ford Taurus, those are REALLY good. I had 2 inline when I ran my Taurus fans and never EVER had a problem. I just stole a couple last time I was at the J-yard *just in case*
