Bay Area: Looking for a shop that can do LS1 conversion
Bay Area: Looking for a shop that can do LS1 conversion
I was debating on picking up a GTO, but I absolutly love the looks of the 7, but love the power of the GTO, so I've decided to combine the best of best.
I will be finding a 93-95 RX7 and then hopefully do an LS1 conversion.
What exactly do I need to complete this and what are the estimated costs and do you know of any shops around here that would do the conversion?
I'm in San Jose, CA. I know when I had my 8 worked on, I went to Rotary Extreme and I know they do a lot with the FD's but I don't know if they know much for LS1 conversion.

Karack are you serious that you could do it or was it just a joke?
Do you own a shop or you just know how to do it?
Audiobot, I see that you have an ls1 7, how do you like it? Has the power, reliability, feel, and hows your gas mileage? Also, when doing mods, say like headers and exhaust, things like that, do you have to get them customly made or what?

i own a small rotary shop north of Sacramento, even though my prices are fairly low that conversion still wouldn't be cheap due to the amount of work it takes and it isn't a weekend job either. i may consider it but atm i wouldn't even be able to get started on it until after new years.

), but if you want someone with more experience (ls1/2/6 conversion) try PMing ls1240z up in walnut creek. He can put the car together in less than a week if you have all the parts. He has a day time job and only works on cars at night. Cool guy, he helped with my conversion. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Im located in san jose also. Btw, I killed a 02 M3 last week just by gasing on 5th gear on 85.

Im using JTR 7/8 ceriamic coated longtube headers (made for ls1/2/6 FD's) and got a custom midpipe/ypipe made to mate to my racing beat duals (very quiet). I highly recommend doing the conversion yourself, you will diff. learn a lot. It isnt that hard and almost everything will bolt right up. If you want a shop to do it, I say to go rotary extreme (chuck doesnt bash on ls1 7's

If Hardhitter is getting a hinson lsx mounting kit, im pretty sure he wont get it til 2-3 months later. Unless he goes with a granny kit, jimlab's ls7 kit, or something completely custom.

Dou you have a ballpark figure for just the labor to complete the swap?

What about what I've heard that without a lot of custum work it's easy to warp the lifters if you're not constantly reminding yourself to shift at 3K rpm (Joke) I know it's got a 6-7 K limit, but the tach won't change... I guess if you've only owned an LS1 it's no change from a camaro... Dunno... I'm heartbroken over the loss of yet another motor, but an LS1 swap sounds like a different set of headaches.... I'm not sure I'd be trading up or down....

there are reasons why the other car companies do not put rotaries on their cars.
