AZ smog?
I have a 94 that I'm probably going to have to register in AZ or CA soon. What's the deal with smog in Phoenix? All the info I'm getting on smog regulations in AZ is conflicting. I know registering at my CA home is a no go considering I'd like to register it legally. I have none of my smog components at all since Florida doesn't have any emissions controls and putting them back on is not an option.

I have some friends that said the tech there doesn't even open your hood. As long as there's no check engine light it's almost a guarantee that they will pass the car. The cats may need to still be intact tho. Not sure...

Here's what you do:
Get an EGR valve and put it on the side of your manifold with double sided tape. Put a hose on it going somewhere underneath the engine so it looks like its connected. Get any kind of wiring harness and connect it to it and attach it somewhere so it looks legit.
Get an electric air pump from a Corvette, connect it directly to the cat, buy a mini air filter to attach to the intake. Wire a switch to it.
Full your tank halfway, then put in 3 gallons of e85.
Unscrew the check engine light bulb if you havnt already.
When you're on the rollers go as gently as you can.
That's how I passed.

Our emissions inspection is very lax compared to California.
I'm not 100% certain of FD's but on a FC they do a gas cap test, clamp the evap canister, and run the car on a dyno emissions sniffer.
I've done the cat and vette airpump deal before. I easily passed.
Visual inspection isn't big at all. I had block off plates and stuff and they didn't care.
I'm running collector car insurance on my FC and 240sx. My agent at State Farm gave me 7k miles per year. I drove the car to Sevenstock, a car show almsot every weekend, and drift it on the track.
Also, the actual law states there must a restriction on the car. It doesn't specifically state mileage. Your insurance company could say you can't let fat girls ride and that's technically enough. The mileage restrictions are imposed by the insurance companies themselves. Shop around for one that you like.
I've been using collector insurance for about 3 years now and my company hasn't asked me what my mileage is now.

Andy, don't hate that my beater is cuter than yours!
I don't mind that it's a stated value vehicle; at least I know what I'm getting if totaled or stolen.
Mileage isn't an issue. I usually only drive the FD on the weekends when I'm in LA and the bf isn't with me. With that combo I'm averaging 3k a year. Although I think he's been stealing it when I'm out of town.

AZ only does tailpipe on Dyno and gas cap, however the dyno levels are as stringent as Cali.

I think they do a vehicle inspection, but nothing like Cali. It's been awhile since I bought my FD from Hawaii, but if I remember correctly, they just look to make sure that the VIN and mileage match what's on the title. They also look for the sticker or plate in the door jam that states the car meets all EPA and DOT standards. That's it. Pretty basic.

Nothing much Andy. Can't keep up with Ryan and I'm resisting adding a body kit. May have to get another rotary and start a second project!! We'll see. Looking forward to another Sevenstock in late Sept/Oct and hanging out with yourself and my other California rotorbros!

In Arizona, if you have Classic Insurance, the car is NOT your primary driver, and you have mileage restrictions, i.e., most policies are 3500 miles, you are smog exempt. Your primary daily can NOT be older than the car you're trying to insure under the Classic program. I think a bunch of you should move over here
What that is legit bro!
My car stays in cali but i live in hawaii so I only use it when i come down to visit... such a freaken payne
