Anyone speak Hmong? Northern California?

Hi all: I'm seeking someone who speaks Hmong who might be willing to help with translation. I was the victim in a vehicle collision almost 2 months ago in Eureka (northern CA). The woman, a Hmong-speaker, admitted fault at the time of the accident (she ran a red light), and then she changed her story when she called her insurance company. Her arraignment is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I would really like to have a native speaker with me to translate what she is saying in court (she will have a translator present, probably a family member). There of course are no witnesses as it happened early on a Sunday morning.

All I want is the truth to come out so that I can collect the damages to my car and get it fixed ('91 vert w-mods). Court date is on 6-18.

If anyone can help I would be so appreciative.

Thanks,
Liz

There are a couple of people in NorCal 7's that do, but I can't remember who they are for the life of me. Hopefully they'll see this and step up to help out a fellow club member. Best of luck to you Liz.

On second thought... You could ask the court to appoint a translator. That way it keeps things honest.

Zach, that's a great idea. I will call and see if they can do that. I think she is bringing her own translator, but I can't be sure of that. I'll check it out.

When I used to work for the 21st Century Insurance, I received a call from Toadman LOL!. Immediately after we hung up, he started a thread. Btw...where is our friend Toadman these days?

Well, if you want to take a drive over to Eureka to help with interpretation, let me know. Gas, food, lodging, paid by me.

I will, Zach. The idea RX7-Kid had of tape recording the proceedings is a good one. I will try to do that. The hearing is next Monday a.m., so I'll post up afterwards,

Hey, and if anyone knows where I can find another vert, even with a blown motor, I'm thinking I should just swap all my goodies into it. The quotes I'm getting from body shops have run $6,000 to $6,900! Ouch!!! So if I can find a shell, we'll just transfer everything from my car, then, if/when I get insurance money, I'll spend it on a good paint job.

Will post this under classifieds, too.

Welp, the lady who hit my car is contesting the infraction (fines of up to $500), so we are going to trial next month. This is so ridiculous and unbelievable! She is going to end up paying more restitution because of her lie, due to the time off I have to take from work, plus travel time to Eureka.

The good news—RX7kid and Bee—is that the court uses a certified court translation service via phone, so I don't have to worry about "fairness" in that arena.

So it drags on…
