Anyone ever deal with Motorsport Dynamics?

So I met Henry the owner of motorsport dynamics a while back....Very very nice guy, very upfront and no BS type of guy. apparently he's an authorized power excel dealer and can dyno tune power FC's and has worked on and tuned quite a few RX7's. Has anyone on this board had their car worked on by him?

Yes, Henry is a Super nice guy. If you go to his shop, you will see plenty of RX7's there. He uses a Dynapack dyno and seems to really know his stuff about cars. Let us know how your tuning goes birdy

Henry can tune most anything, count how many cars he has in the shop, divide that by the hours in a day, then by days in a week, hope you have a rental

Yeah, he tuned my friend Hubert's S14 and also is currently working on Calvin Wans new Drift FD--building it completely from ground up and tuning the ECU as well. I just wanted to know if anyone on this forum has any direct experience with his power fc tuning

Is this the same Henry that had/has a MKIV?

Where is he located?

How does he stack up against Steve Kan?

Henry is wrenching on my car right now. He's a great guy, and he's a real no BS, no expense spared kinda guy. Henry has tons of experience with ECUs, and he really knows all the tickings of rotary powered cars, too. I am sure that he is one of the best, if not the best tuner in the valley. I believe the only ECU Henry doesn't have much experience with is the Wolf 3D V4, which is unfortunately what's in my car and still needs to be fine-tuned...

That being said, now would not be a good time to try to get Henry to do a PFC install and tune. In the past few months, they've lost two of their four technicians, their latest loss coming only two weeks ago. On top of that, my car suffered an engine fire while on the dyno, and although it's taken him some time to get to it, Henry was nice enough to add me to his busy schedule, even though he was never scheduled to do work to my car. A few weeks ago, they had 9 cars in the garage and 5 more sitting outside. Now they have enough space to bring them all in at night. MSD does great work, and sometimes can find great deals. The rate I pay for labor is $75/hr for parts not bought through them, and $65, one time even $55/hour for parts bought through them. Just understand that they're a little backed up right now.

Dunno about the MKIV, but he has a trick *** 600+whp R33 Skyline GTR.

He is located in Sacramento. I haven't had any direct experience with Steve Kan or Henry, but I do know that Henry at Motorsport Dynamics is an authorized Power Excel dealer (the only one in Northern California at that) while I don't think Steve Kan is yet (information taken from www.apexi-usa.com. He has been in business since 1989 as well. While I have never had my car worked on by him, my conversations with him lead me to believe he is 100% competent.

All the good mechanics are backed up right now =)

As far as your car is concerned, I'm a little confused. Did it catch on fire on henry's dyno or on some other place? What were the circumstances?

The situation was this: I had my car scheduled to be worked on Wed., January 27th, and finished either by Friday or the Monday after that. This was installing and dyno tuning a Wolf EMS. However, the mechanic that started working on my car left to work at another shop, while my car sat there, stripped, untuned, and useless. The mechanic came back a week later and worked after hours to finish fabricating the wiring harness, and then on Saturday, the 6th i believe, my car was finishing tuning when the pulsation damper screw backed off, and my car suffered an engine fire. Luckily, there was a fire extinguisher was nearby.

Since the mechanic who was doing the install no longer works at MSD, Henry cut me a new harness and is finishing the fuel lines today.

All of the good mechanics might be backed up right now, but Henry and Ray are taking an extra-backed up schedule right now, seeing as how they have to do the work that was scheduled for the mechanic that left, plus work their drift cars, plus take on their usual busy schedule that's usually handled by four people.

They may have an opening, I'm sure they could use the help. They usually hire in the spring, before summer (busy time).

Wow, sounds like a weird story you have there. At any rate you are in good hands I think. Henry is a really nice guy that really cares about his customers cars unlike a lot of other tuning shops. Good luck with your car and keep us updated on how the tuning goes. BTW, what type of mods are you running on your car? Why did you choose to go with the wolf4d rather than a normal plug and play system like the power fc?

i may have to give em a call.... i'm getting tired of the BS that surrounds dealerships. only thing i am worried about is that working for them is if i would build a reputation for the company and not myself, i plan on opening up my own rotary specialty shop in the near future...

I spoke with them and the rates sound pretty reasonable.

Somewhere between $200-$400.

Anyone have them tune a FD with PFC?
