Anyone coming out to Cal Speedway thisweekend
Well it was a fun weekend. A little busy for me, but everything worked out. We had a hand full of 3ed gen's (didn't see any 2nd gen's
) and 7 1st gen's that I saw, show up.
I got lucky and pulled off a second on Saturday's race and a First place finish on Sunday's race.
Saturday's race was mostly uneventful from were I was sitting. Qualified 3ed behind Vine and Koos (all in 1st gen's). Both in the 2sec flat mark. Being that I could only muster a 2:02. I knew I was just going to have to hold on as best as possable and wait for something to happen. Well it did. Koos broke something and in a puff a of smoke, tryed to pull in to the pits. He didn't make it and parked by the inside wall just before the pit entrence. Bringing out the yellow flag and handing Vine 1st and me 2nd. Finishing under yellow.
Sunday with Koos packed up (never got a chance to find out what happened to him). I seemed like it was going to be a repete of Saturday's race with me just trying to hand on to Vine. But someone new showed up. I didn't do my best but still qualified 3ed. Vine (1st gen)on pole and Jennings in 2en (miata), Me and Miller (miata).
Vine showed up late and had to start at the back of the pack. So Jennings (a rookie in the class) was told how to lead the field to the starting line. As I was asked, nicely, to not pull any funny bissness at the start. I agreed. So Jennings pulls a fast one and slows down just before the green flag. so I have to get off the gas and the whole field walks on by me.
So I just took off trying to keep up on the first lap. I passed miller to put me back into 3ed at the start of the second lap, turn 1. It' took 2 more laps to get up to 1 & 2 as Vine was all over Jennings. On the 4th lap Vine out braked Jennings going into the complex turn 12.
On lap 5, drafting off Jennings I got around in turn 1. But I sould of held back because I did not get a good enough run on him. So he got me back under brakeing in turn 3. I suckerd him in to takeing the inside line in turn 5/6 and got the run on him going into the button hook turn 9. Then went off looking at Vine who was about 2sec in the lead. I was gaining on him. I think he was having troubles. I didn't think I was that close, but in turn 12, with the Miata on my ***, I almost hit Vine and had to go off the track. But came back on in the same order as I left. Being this close to Vine I was able to draft so what, as his car could pull away down the straights(yes I need a motor rebild). But at the turn in off the oval. he locked up the brakes and went off the track as I was forced to lock up mine to miss him, but gained enough control as to make the turn. With the Miata still right on my ***.
I held on and pulled a slight lead for tow more laps to finish first.

A friend just sent me this. This is a faster class going by us on the last lap. As you can see the car in first got real lose too. The guy in yellow had to pull the same, off track move. In the same place where I just miss Vine.
