Talked Yesterday
That guy works at JMC in clairmont now with dave turner and the mustangs after they combined shops. The garage area is pretty tight and the show room floor looks pretty good. Hit up or call up JMC and seth always answers the phone there. My friend just got his car compressioned checked day b4 yesterday at JMC.

I met Seth back in 98, we were both looking to buy the same Rx-7. I even visited his shop downtown once (after I got my seven) When I was there I did not get that vibe from him at all. I didn't go back because I had a 5 year service contract with Mazda.
sucks about how he is now
sucks about how he is now

Well, I spoke to him personally and I am unclear as to if he filed for bankruptcy once or twice. He had a busienss deal where he teamed up with a shop in Utah or Nevada and was going to open an internet store. This was done while he had his shop in Ramona working on RX's. Eventually the partnership deal with the place out of state fell apart and a number of customers (Mazda 3 club one of them) wer left out in the cold. He then filed for bankruptcy for that partnership deal. Mind you this was I believe a seperate business entity from his shop. He continued his shop but still had quite a few people that were resentful as a result of the internet store gone bad.
Quite sometime later, his shop burned to the ground with around 12 RX's inside it. They were all a total loss. The cause of the fire was ruled to be an electrical short in a wall socket. Suppossedly this electrical short was caused by flood damage that had occured to the building long before Puresports was there. Once the cars burned, it became a legal nighmare becuase as in one case, he had a car in his shop that had no insurance whatsoever. The owner bought the car and right after purchasing it, had it shipped to Puresports for work. Insurance was goign to be purchased after it came out of the shop. Seth's insurance didn't want to pay for it and the building owners insurance didn't want to pay for it and the former RX owner was left holding a note for a shell of a car.
Other cars in the shop were in a state of disassemble due to engine repairs. The insurance companies for those cars have come back only wanting to pay for a roller because technically the engine was blown and out of the car. Other car owners were stuck in a case where they had 10K+ of upgrades on their car but didn't have the upgrades on their insurance and thus the ins companies are only paying them fair market value for their car in stock form. Others that had R1's or R2's are getting stiffed from their insurance becuase their car is considered a "Base" model becuase it didn't have power locks, sunroof, leather, or CD. Thsi knowledge comes directly from talking to the owners of these cars. All of these owners are in turn trying to go after the insurance company that Seth had (who in turn is trying to go after the insurance company of the building owner who is not Seth btw). All of this is stuck in legal proceedings with lawyers and lawsuits going back and forth. As a result of all this, Seth had to file bankruptcy or the burned down business.
The guy may have had some questionable business ethics, but I can also see where some of this (related to the fire anyways) was not directly his fault either.
I'm still shocked at the link above on the shoddy workmanship!

Well ****, I just left my GTUs in there with a bad oil injector line and possibly a bad pilot bearing (when cold start, transmission makes a noise with the foot of the clutch out of gear).
He quoted me about $350 for the oil injector line being replaced.
The whole funny thing is, according to him, this GTUs which was actually purchased from someone posting on this board under "DaveTurner Motorsports" has quite a lot of controversy behind it. Apparently Dave Turner and Seth both got screwed on the deal.
I paid 5k for the car even in pretty horrible cosmetic condition because I was told the engine was freshly rebuilt, the car well tuned... and for the most part, I *think* it is but this whole situation is pretty discouraging.

NorCal 7's Co-founder
FlyPenFly, I'd pull your car out of there and take it to a reputable rotary mech in SoCal. I wouldn't let Seth work on my worst enemy's Honda! It's not that he isn't capable of doing the work, it's that he's shady and would just as soon rip you off then do the work properly like he is more than capable of doing. Just my .02

I'll do it for $275!!! Save yourself a buck or two. I'll even rebuild all the lines so the next brittle POS (there are four altogether) doesn't crack next week.

Damn it, it's not an oil injector... it's apparently the front engine cover gasket... estimate is now $600
He actually rebuilt the engine himself at Puresports... gr.
Think you can do that?
