naah' seriously though, Irivine's the place...or the O. C. , but like MR. WACKY claimed...it's who you know (especially in L.A.)

good luck 'maaang.

+1

Oceanside is definitely a nice city if you don't mind the gang violence and random practice bombings at Camp Pendleton that rattle your windows and scare the **** out of your dogs.

It is a bit far from LA but my dad is an Operating Engineer and he has had jobs up in Irvine... Burbank... etc.... and made the commute daily. It's not completely city-like but it's not cattle country. Los Angeles traffic is teh suck though.

What is commuting like over there on average? Here around DC 45-60 minutes seems acceptable. Traffic is horrible here. Is it unrealistic for me to think i could live right near the beach and either bike to work or have like a 20 minute drive commute? Or would the design firms and other business be further away from the coast in general? Im so sick of commuting. Im planning on using the last of my vacation time to come out there this summer (Ive never been). Hopefully one of you guys can show me and my wife around to some of the different areas.

I really appreciate all the input from everyone. Feel free to chime in with any other advice or area specific information. The good and the bad.

Ok bringing this back from the dead. The time has come. I put my notice in at work and my wife and I are coming over there mid september. I'm taking a month off to find a job while she keeps working. We are still considering Irvine or huntington beach or maybe somewhere between but a friend is coming with us and he needs to be accessible to LA. I am trying to be more open minded to it since I heard LA isnt like a normal city environment but more spread out. What are the good neighborhoods there and the ones to watch out for? I would like to lock in a place to rent this week or next.
