Alarm Dealer/Installer.
So my dad wants me to get an alarm for my FC, for fear that if I were to drive it to school (SDSU) or anywhere down south closer to the border, it shall be stolen.
I have yet to convince him otherwise, I.E the futility of the alarm, but hes set on getting one, and i figure hey, since hes paying for it, Ill enjoy the benefits of keyless entry and blue flashing lights.
Anyways back to my point, anyone know of a good Alarm installer in San Diego, I did a search and you will see that there are only 5 threats pertaining to alarms, and only 1 of those 5 pertain to alarm installers, which are in LA.
So yeah i dont want the installers to hack up the car, since i myself know how old the FC is, and that any carelessness with the removal of interior crap might break all the small tabs and useless **** in the car.
Any sort of neat replys will do... also any alarm reccomendations. I'm just planning to get the BASIC of the BASIC viper or clifford systems. Price estimates for both the alarms and the installs would be cool. I know I'm looking at 100+ for a decent alarm. and another 100+ for a decent install.

I have a good installer in LA...not in SD. Do you come to LA at all? have a GF or relatives? My guy is mobile, so you can sked something with him in advance and he can come to you.
Here is my take on our cars. Basically our cars are old...and many people dont even know what they are. So you only have to protect your car from scumbag crack heads that only want your ipod or or steal your radio....or a semi pro that is a ROTARY HEAD that REALLY WANTS your car. Do you get my drift?
Many "car thieves" want the easy car for joy rides, burglary or to sell parts. A Toyota Camry or Honda Accord will get stolen way before your car.
Anyways...here is my point. Here is what I did, I own my SE...and seriously, it is a 20+ year old car. Who cares right? The only people that want my car are fellow rotary heads. PERIOD. So I only need to protect my car from PEOPLE WHO KNOW. I did not need an alarm...because the people that want my car...want the WHOLE CAR.
So I suggest a kill switch. Not a cheesy little switch that cuts the fuel...I am talking about really think about a great spot to hide your switch and kill the car from the ignition. My switch..and I am very proud of it...I doubt anyone can find it...kills the car from the ignition. So there is ZERO power going to the ignition, starter, fuel etc. The thieves have to tow my car or really take apart my steering column and literally hot wire it. Even then the wires wont do any good, unless they find out where I cut into it...so sorry for the long winded post...but food for thought.
PM if you want my guy in LA if you will be in the area.

Not sure about the LA Guy, I do go to LA, but I'm not going up there anytime soon, and I'm not down to go up there just for an Install haha.
And I totally understand your point on OUR cars, I was wayyy ahead of you on the kill swtich, that was my MAIN security measure followed by hidden stereos/radios/GPS/speakers the works.
Anyways the alarm is mainly to let my dad feel at ease driving it to school. I think hes influenced by the fact that about 15 - 16 years ago, our friends RX-7, that was living in our house at the time, was stolen, about a month after my dad's celica was stolen. hes now convinced San Diego is a horrid community for auto theft.
Anyways Ill get back to you on the LA bit, im not sure yet, but I'm guessing youre man is good at what he does?
Also wanna give me an idea on how to set up YOUR kind of kill switch, Ive only done research on the fuel cut off switch, which i thought would have been good enough.
P.S I know i talk a lot, my bad

dude no one cares if an alarm goes off anyways. dont you notice that people just ignore alarm sirens in general they find it annoying and wish for it to stop. then when the car is actually stolen, the public caresless, because the annoying car is finally gone now...lol
i lived in camino ruiz san d.
really not a bad place, just alot of asians. no offence...im asian...lol
tell your dad that kill switches are the way to go, save money dad. there are alot you can do for free or you can buy killswitches, etc... up to you.
i have met and beaten car thieves, a lot of them know their way around an alarm.
if you can, get a GPS vehicle monitor. so if it is stolen, you can find it... cheap way is to leave an opperating cell phone in the car. that way if you dont have a gps monitor, the cops can trace your cell phone.....lol

I agree with asian image. no on even knows what are cars are. My insurance tried to list me as a 83 rx7 xt MX5? even thought I told them i was a 90rx7 and they are like they have no info other then I said it was mazda. I would just make a kill switch. possibly in a place that most people wouldn't think to look. especially since anyone who is stealing the car probably knows the car in and out.

LOL..yeah my guy is good. He is not CHEAP at all..but again, you pay for quality and trust. The dude has been in the game for a while and a fellow car guy. He has owned tons of cars etc. His current project is a Toyota Starlet with a 13B street port in it. So he respects the cars and knows them.
As for the kill switch..if you go to ANY REPUTABLE shop that knows the cars electrical system should be able to help you. The old "fuel pump" cut off any 7th grader can by pass that. I dont want to discuss EXACTLY what you need to do on a public forum, but you get the idea. You need to make it as difficult as possible for the thief to get your car. So...think about what needs to start the car? yeah...think about it..and CUT THAT. get it?
yeah I understand your pops feels better with an alarm..here is another solution...its a little ricey but it fits our cars...how about getting the detachable steering wheel? EFF the club...just take the whole steering wheel with you. For sure then the thieves need to tow it or have a spare steering wheel with them. I plan on going that route...my current KILL SWITCH and a MOMO STEERING Wheel that comes off. I am hoping that is enough...then if some jerkoff drives by and sees my car and wants it...he will cruise by look inside and see no steering wheel will make him keep going. Hopefully.
again more food for thought.
I have a viper 5002 on my car currently. I'm gonna install some relays soon where you won't be able to start my car unless you trigger a combination, whether they be high beams, fans, turn signals, etc.

Haha in response to ilikeeatpoo and AWDRFTR i already tried to convince my Dad that I dont need alarm but he still wants to sooo, i mean I'm not paying so yeahps. It's really not my choice, i already told him I'm instlaling a kill switch and he said well might as well get an alarm to deter the thiefs. but yeah, I'm gonna get a Detachable Steering wheel down the road.
Sounds like an awesome idea. I don't know alarm models, is the 5002 a higher trim or is it a more basic trim. Just might be annoying if I were in a hurry.

Alarm info...
Just FYI, I'm based in San Diego and do mobile electronics and security, have been for 26 yrs. I carry most of the major brands, Viper, Clifford,(for security)and most of the others as well for electronics, Sony, Kenwood, Infinity, Fosgate etc and also am a dealer for GPS recovery systems.
As for FC's, I can certianly offer a quality install, I own two myself, so I am aware that most people don't know or care much about these cars. Can answer whatever questions you may have regarding what I carry. And of course since I am the owner, I don't have to ask anyone if I can "hook you up".

+200 for the removable steering wheel and cutoff. seriously, that is the only way. **** alarms, they dont work. and if you actually look at one, they usually say something along the lines of "1/4-1/2 mile". the REALLY expensive ones are 1 mile. but still, if you are on campus, all the way across, you can be out of range. i know thats a stretch, but still, think about it. i did the removable steering wheel and cutoff, it works wonders. although, my master intaller friend did a redundant electric system for his navi. cutoff the main power to the engine, but a secondary system for his alarm, but the gps on all the time. (that car makes me drool).
anywho, for us, yes, steering wheel and cutoff.

if you are gonna get a detachable steering wheel, make sure you try to get an unpopular one, one that is unique. because most of my friends bought the same snap out wheel lock, i would switch their steering wheels around on them to mess with them, i have a cheap twist lock, however i don't know n e 1 else who has it. im pretty safe on the steering wheel deal

Like I said guys, I'm not the one that wants it, I'm all for Kill Switch and Detachable steering wheel. But it makes him (my dad) more comfortable for the car to have an alarm, so if he wants it he can go ahead and get one, why should I stop him, its his choice and hes paying. The car is on his insurance so he does get some say on what goes in the car. Besides I can appreciate a little keyless entry.
Oh and Kill Switch and Detachable Steering wheel have been on my list before I even got a FC. I was never planning on getting an alarm. LO-Jack MAYBE, but alarm never really cared.
