1994 A-Spec 500R RX7 Build

So it's been a while since I posted in here but allow me to introduce myself. I am a long time member and owned my first rotary engine when I bought a 2004 RX8. I thought it was the best car in the world until I found out more about the FD's and well less than a year later I sold the 8 and got into a 7. After a year of owning the FD and modding and loving this car to death, I had to sell it but I promised myself I'd be driving another one once I graduated college. Here is what it ended up looking like and I'm sure some of you guys have seen/remember it.

Fast forward two years later and I graduted college and 5 months after graduating I bought my new FD and this is where my build thread comes from. I am building this car for both reliability and a fun weekend car.

So far this is the list of my parts list for my build, the goal of my setup is to be pushing 400rwhp on low boost (14psi) and pump gas (91 in Cali). High boost (20psi) will be good for 450-475rwhp on pump gas.

New streetported 3mm engine
Unorthodox Pulley Set
A-Spec 500R T4 Single Turbo
A-Spec Stainless Manifold
Ceramic Coated Upper and Lower Intake Manifolds
Greddy Type-RS BOV
Tial 44mm Wastegate
RE-A Dual-Tip Cat-Back Exhaust System
A-Spec Down Pipe
A-Spec Mid Pipe
RX-7Store V-Mount Intercooler Kit + Modified KOYO Radiator
Coolingmist Trunk mount injection kit
Apexi PowerFC and Commander
Greddy Throttlebody Elbow
FDNewbie Import Dual Oil Coolers w/ Black Setrab Cores
Supra TT fuel pump
550cc primary, 1300cc secondary injectors.
HKS Twin Power
Exedy Clutch/flywheel
Innovate LC-1 Wideband with XD-16 Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge
AEM Digital Tru Boost Gauge/Boost Controller
AEM Digital Fuel Pressure Gauge
AEM Digital Oil Pressure Gauge
AEM Digital Oil Temperature Gauge
PowerFC with Commander

Plan is to have the engine bay area completed no later than February 2010 and then plans for widebody/wheels/suspension will be the second phase.

I will keep this thread updated with pictures and information on how the build is going.

Hope to make it out to some meets when it's all done!

Low boost is 14 pounds now days? And what auxiliary injection are you planning on going with?

Also, two PowerFCs does not mean more power

Any plans on ceramic coating the downpipe as well to keep engine bay temps down?

That's why I'm doing everything to keep the temps low. Ceramic coating, water injection, turbo blanket, etc etc.

I'm using the Coolingmist Trunk mount water injection kit for now. Maybe later down the line I'll do a 50/50 mix of water and meth but I don't want to get the car tuned for it because if I run out and I'm tuned for that 50/50 setup and I go WOT, well, the engine isn't going to like that very well.

You didn't know that if you have two PFC's you gain 100rwhp? oops

And yes, ceramic coating the downpipe and my turbo manifold while the engine is pulled out, as well as ceramic coating the turbo housing. Hopefully with the housing done and the blanket, it'll help keep some of the temps down.

I imagine that with the water injection and ceramic coating that your temps should be pretty darn good. If you ever do decide to switch to pure alcohol, your intake temps will fall so quickly that your UIM will freeze over.

But for 400rwhp, water injection is just fine.

Get a low level light, light comes on when you get to a low level in the tank.

Sooner or later I'll probably pickup their gauge that shows it coming on and the level that the tank is at, but again, this is going to be a weekend/fun car so I'm not going to be boosting crazy everywhere all the time. The water injection is basically going to be there as a safety net to help keep temps in line.

I'm shooting more for a long lasting engine than dyno queen. I'm hoping I'll be able to run 400-415rwhp on pump all day with no problems. Then once the engine has been running well and got some good miles on it, I'll go ahead and upgrade my fueling to support pushing a little more power.

I'm still waiting to order the rest of the parts and for other parts to come in. I expect to have all the needed parts by the end of this month and beginning the engine work when I get back from vacation in January.

You need to post before pictures of your car and engine bay setup, even if its stock. Believe me, if you are truly a rotary guy and plan to keep this for a long time, you'll want to see before and after pics in 10 years too.

Well some toys came in for my build.

Ceramic coated upper and low intake manifolds
Turbo blanket
Center speaker gauge pod
A-pillar 3 gauge pod

Going into the shop to order my AEM tru-boost, fuel pressure, oil pressure and oil temp gauges. I may switch and use the AEM wideband too.

Since you guys want pictures, I took some with my camera phone.

Correct I picked up Roberts car and basically taking what he had on the car and adding/replacing to do the build right in my eyes.

Just ordered my AEM fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp and tru-boost gauges.

I'll likely decide to stay with AEM for my wideband and pickup their UEGO gauge.

Parts should be in sometime next week.

Why so many gauge pods why not try to find something 3in1, 4in1 so the inside of you car doesn't look like a fighter **** pit.
