*Rant* F*cking FD!

Alright, so the story begins..

Last weekend I replaced my water pump with a NEW OEM water pump, as I noticed the original looked like it was about ready to go since it was dancing around when the car was running. So I figured it would be good to go ahead and replace it before it fails. It was a PITA to replace it.. 13 year old bolts have a tendency to break. So after few broken bolts, bleeding knuckles, and few hours of work the car was back and running.

This weekend I took the car to streets of willow. After 10 min into my first session I lost boost. Was only hitting about 3psi. Inspected the car, and the flapper for the exhaust divider from primary to secondary came loose. Fixed that.

Second session, after about 10 min again, my exhaust decide to come off its donut and sag to the ground, got meat balled and came off the track to put it back on.. no big deal, just lost some track time.

Third session, everything seemed to be going good, car drove strong and felt good. After I pulled off, and was letting the engine idle to allow the car to cool off I noticed some water on the floor. I take a look and sure enough the was water dripping from the car, at first I thought perhaps one of the coolant lines on the turbo took a **** or something since I really couldn't tell where it was leaking from. Just seen water coming from the under the water pump housing and figured it couldn't be the water pump since it had less then 200 miles on it. I surely couldn't drive it like this so I got the car towed home from streets of willow. Good thing my friend Carlos has AAA, THANKS AGAIN! So the 98 mile tow didn't cost anything.

So today I decided to see where the f*ck it was leaking from, I go get a pressure tester and pressurize the cooling system. After about 10 seconds I see the leak. It was leaking from the F*CKING NEW WATER PUMP!!! There was water coming from the weep hole.

So I got everything taking off, now tomorrow I have to drive to go and exchange the pump for a new one, and hopefully I won't run into any issues with the other pump.

Blah, I just need to get this off my chest.

On the other hand I ran 5 seconds faster then my friends G35 which has cold air intake, and strait pipes. I was only running 8psi as I wanted to keep the engine happy.

Oh well **** happends, hopefully I don't get any kinda BS tomorrow when I go and exchange the pump, hell it has less then 200 miles it, 150 miles of just highway driving. URGH!!!

people love FDs for some reason... now if i could have the reliability of an FC with the looks of an FD, well yea... that's alot of work though.

^ Yea, I been trying to keep one step ahead in the maintance of the FD.. been replacing alot of parts so that I wouldn't have a failure like this.. It has never left me stranded for 8k I have owned it.. but I guess **** happends.

I was even boosting 8 psi, to try to put less stress on the engine so nothing would break.

FCs tend to have more small issues like wiper switch failures, small coolant leaks, electrical issues because of their age but the FDs and their cooling systems, holy **** that was a bad idea... they should have stuck with the FC designed fan clutch setup. can't count how many FDs die each year due to cooling system issues, FCs do too but not nearly the same rate.

yeah, maintenance is #1 for any FD owner, keeping on top of regular maintenance should help keep it on the road.

Been thru three track days with my daily driven Fd, only problem was leaking turbo oil return lines - fixed um, and have never had a problem! Do all my own maintence and check the bejesus out of the car before we go out.

That's easy to do. It's called a single turbo and a good stand alone EMS.

pretty much, the cooling system does require the most attention though.

Yeah, a nice rad would help matters. Along with an aluminum AST. And a BIG exhaust with no cats!!
