MN New BorgWarner EFR 9174 in stock !

Borgwarner has release a hybrid turbocharger between the size of the 8374 and the 9180. It uses the 9180 compressor wheel attached to the 8374 turbine wheel. I am not sure exactly how these will perform as honestly the 9180 is not slow AT all as is!( we get 20 psi by 3k on our FC3S chassis). Regardless we have these in stock now. They are available as a supercore and fit the 8374 turbine housings( T4 iwg .92, and T4 1.05). Those are the only housings to use a rotary FYI.

I'll be interested to see how this model performs once we start seeing them in cars.

So this will spool something like a 8374 but put down power closer to a 9180 in theory?

Figure spool and power will be inbetween both turbos.

Could one make our own hybrid efr?For instance I already have an 8374 ...could I not get a 9180 and then make a 8380 which I would use for myself and then a 9174 to sell?

I know in the borg warner technical paper that they wrote about how hard the AlTI turbine wheels are to make and to get them to stay on the pin....they have a patent on how they secure the wheel to the assembly. I doubt its very easy and not like any of the other turbo's people work with.

Does the 8374 clear you a.c lines?

Should as I'm going to be using the fullrace manifold (long runner style)

The reason I ask is I'm lead to believe that a 8380 would produce near some power level as the 8374 (~475-525whp) but with even better spool from the 80 turbine side flowing more)
Can someone elaborate ?

It will only in theory respond faster from say 0 to 5 psi, but after that be slower.

With our short runner one can see 31 psi by 3400rpms. Even then the compressor is surging. One does not need any faster. Our kits clear the ac lines too.

We are now out of stock of these. Its only a matter of time before we get some dyno results...

Thanks Im happy with the 8374 im going to use more just better educating myself on the otger options.
Im aiming for 450~475hp with 375-400tq to the wheels
Im not looking to run boost levels over 20psi by much if at all and will be running 94octane and 50/50 w/m injection. Just aiming for the most usable powerband posible and waz currious if this new 9174 or maybe eventual 8380 would better auit my needs

I envision the opposite.

It would be more efficient at the expense of spool up. The efr 8374 spools amazingly already, putting the larger turbine wheel on it makes it more efficient with less back pressure and retains less heat. You will see a little slower spool, which is fine, but gain efficiency up top. instead of being the low end and mid range all star, it extends its power up top better at expense of just a little low end and mid range.

Perfect turbo then.

about 8380 ..i just got one buildt for me with ar 1.45 from the parts leftovers from a 9174 build :-)
looks awesome and will be on a 20b in a raceclass where turbos are restricted not to produce more then 600hp

Thank you that makes perfect sense and clears things up.

Why go through all the trouble and just use a 9180 then? My 9180 makes 31 psi by 3900rpms and spins the tires at 100plus mph...

I am not going through the trouble. I am just saying if there were a hybrid worth getting that would be it.
