Thats really upsetting! You'd think mazda would have fixed the spontaneous combustion problem with the rotaries by now lol . Honestly I think its just the rotary heat mixed with age that causes the problem (and also people tinkering with the cars in their garage). What a bummer. I can just imagine myself in that guys shoes... staring there in awe and shock as your car burns to the ground in front of you. All of your hard work and money literally going up in smoke and you cant stop it

So let's get this fire extinguisher already! LOL With all this talk of how many people have had fires and what they were like, coupled with the fact that my CJ Motorsports fuel rails are pressing against each other with the GZ LIM, I'm REALLY wanting to get this thing before I drive too much more haha. Luckily I have a couple months before I even see the car again, and even then I have some mx planned for it.

Dear Sakebombers ,

Sorry to beat the drum once again, but it's been more than 30 days since my last request for more detailed pics. We have nearly 40 signed up as interested. Is this going to happen, and if so, can we please get a few more pics? Any idea when we might start moving towards production??

Thanks again for working hard to bring us great new products that drain our bank accounts!!

LOL, no problem dude. As long as you're not impatient about it Heath has been working on the mount and he's pretty happy with how it's coming together. He didn't want to keep posting different revisions, but I think he's nearly has the mount complete. Look for pictures in the next week or so Sorry for the delay, we're dealing with a few projects right now

Side note: Due to shipping hazardous materials and the fact that there isn't much discount associated with ordering a large quantity of extinguishers; we will probably let everyone source their own extinguishers and only offer the mount.

-Dan

PS, LOL sakebombers, nice.

^If you won't be providing the extinguisher yourselves, can you post up where you were going to get them from? Or maybe an idea on what size we need to get? Just wondering. Thanks!

Yeah not a problem. I'm not sure what source we were going to use but we'll get everyone setup with a source. Maybe we can work out a discount if you use a "coupon code" from the supplier. The Mount will be for 5lb bottles.

^Awesome! Yeah that would be great. Thanks!

Any thoughts or ideas yet on how much this will be? I'm just trying to gauge how much deployment money I need to set aside to get this and still do my other projects too lol.

Here is a great source for either the Halo or the Halotron fire extinguishers:

http://www.h3r.com/

For Halo extinguishers, check this one out:

http://www.h3raviation.com/halon_1211_c352tsc.htm

Not sure what Dan means by 5 lbs. (agent weight or extinguisher weight) but the above is the largest chrome extinguisher they make and it is 2.5 lb. agent weight unit which I think would be perfect for use if you go this route. We debated this earlier and "technically" these are illegal for use in our cars so you decide.

If Dan or Heath would let you know what size the

The other route is a "Halguard" Halotron unit:

http://www.h3rperformance.com/hg250c.htm

These are NHRA, IHRA, NMRA & NMCA approved and they do come in 5 lb. "agent" size but I think that would be pretty big to have sitting in front of your seat so I will be interested in what Heath designs. I have the 2.5 lb. agent unit which to me is the perfect size. I guess technically the perfect size is the largest you can get as it would work longer but from an aesthetic perspective, you get the point.

The are one or two other makers of fire extinguishers but H3R is one of the best so buy with confidence.

If Dan or Heath would let you know what size extinguisher to buy you guys could get it now and throw it in one of the bins until the mount is made so at least you'd have the protection.

I'm personally using the h3r (no affiliation) extinguisher, but it's just a 3" standard bottle. It's 5lbs total (2.5lbs agent)... but really all anyone needs to make sure is that it's 3 inch extinguisher.

I've got the latest revision finished, however I want to raise the mount up 1/2" total so its not so close to the floor mat as I know there are thicker mats out there. We're in the process of submitting the CAD design to the machine shop to have "nice" finished prototype made, along with the CNC bent seat bracket. That should take a week or two after we arive at the final design.

I'm still workin on a second style bracket (and trying to incorporate those design feature into the current bracket) to allow people with RZ/Spirit Recaro seats to mount the extinguisher to the rear of the seat... and hopefully with a few design tweaks we'll be able to use the same bracket and mount to give people the option to attach the extinguisher to the REAR of the stock seat as an option as well .

Sorry to everyone who has been waiting. I realize it's taking awhile and I apologize for the wait, but this has kinda went from a bracket I made for myself to mount my extinguisher with my own particular setup, to making something that works flawlessly with everyones car and allows other seats such as the recaro and rear mounting possible. We have so many projects going at the same time that the progress that everyone sees on the surface (what we're posting to the forum) seems like the project is just dragging on, but trust me when I say I've been working on the setup, and trying to accomidate as many setups and seats as possible. Kinda like an iceberg, you only see the 10% thats on the surface but there's a ton going on under the water that's not visible . I'll get some more pics up tonight.

-Heath

Awesome. I was about to say it would be alot cooler if you could do it behind the seat. I think behind the driver seat would be the best location because you hop out of your car, pull your seat forward, unhook the extinguisher. Seems to far away to me on the passenger side. Plus I wouldn't trust a passenger (sometimes I have drunk friends in the car) that would mess with it.

Yeah I'm in the process of (trying to) make one bracket that will work for the stock seat (front or back mount), recaro seat (back mount), and will work for passenger or driver side seat.

So the best we can do for seat clearance on the rear mount is 5 or 6 clicks forward, compared to the stock seat all the way back. Now, for me that's not a problem as I still have to move the seat up from that point... but im short . I wouldn't recommend this for tall drivers. Keep in mind the extinguisher can also be mounted in front of the drivers seat as well (another option).

Oh and for anyone that doesn't know (I just learned this by taking out the seats in my other FD) the 93 and 94 seats are different

It doesn't bother me at all that you guys are taking your time. I won't be driving my car for at least a couple more months anyway and I have to make sure I have the money together lol. Not to mention you can make a better product when you take your time. But, I can see why others would want it right away lol.

I assume you're still going to make the same bracket to mount to 93 AND 94 seats, or will we have to specify when we order? Which one is which in the pic? I'm not home right now so I can't look at my seats.

And I'm definitely keeping mine on the front side of the seats. I don't want to have to spend the extra time moving the seat forward while my car burns to the ground. I'm 6'3" so I couldn't keep it on the back of the driver's seat anyway haha.

EDIT: I'm not sure why I haven't added my name yet...

red is a 93, tan is a 94. I dont know if the design changed in any other years. The seat foam is denser and nicer on the 94 for sure... i just took a few minutes sitting in both to compare. The 94 just feels more comfortable, yet feels like it holds you better.... the 93 feels dated and softer.

BTW (not trying to be a conspiracy theorist) but the 93 seat has only 2" of foam at the indentation (vs 5" on the 94). Those notches are directly below the first seam in the seat, and the indentations are EXACTLY the width of a seatbelt. The angle is pretty close for a 6pt harness. Now we know the mazda execs toned down the car from the original engineers design (prototype had a 9K redline instead of 8). Is it possible they made the seats 6pt harness ready? I don't know but i have mt suspicions

Thanks again for working hard to bring us great new products that drain our bank accounts!!
I'm not ready to post pics of the main under bracket as we are still revising it (hopefully to work with front and rear mounts) but we took a few shots today with the prototype setup mounted in the car. The seat bracket will either be stainless, or 1/4" aluminum (and will be raised about 1/2" for added clearance for thicker floor mats). The extinguisher bracket will not have the lower bolt holes (as it will be machined from billet aluminum, and the upper bolts will be button head allen bolts. The edges will also be radiused, and the corners rounded.

We have an initial CAD design for it but until we settle on the dimensions and mounting type (front/back/recaro) all we have are the raw prototype shots. We're hoping have the first CNC machined and bent parts done by late next week or early the following week. Then off to the powdercoaters to decide if we will offer that... verify it all works and alter the CAD designs if needed, and at that point we will run the actual GB.

One of the hangups is the recaro seat option... but dont worry, we have a set on the way from japan to test that too

So time frame... IDK under a month till we open up the actual GB and start taking orders I hope?? We don't want to leave you guys hanging, but we do need some more time with it before we are ready to start reproducing them.

Releasing bracket is as easy as pulling the quick release pin out and lifting the extinguisher up.

girlunderground was gracious enough to model the bracket for us (we'll have to put some money in a fund to help her save up to finally buy her dream FD) . Anyway, the next pictures (while admittedly being a blatant attempt to make the idea of mounting an extinguisher to your front seat more appealing ) shows the clearance between the passengers legs and the extinguisher. We couldn't find an angle that the extinguisher touched her legs, and the mounting position did not impede her getting in and out of the car in any way. She said "You don't even notice it" and "I'll take one for my non-existent pearl white rx7"

Doesn't touch passengers legs:

Doesn't impede exit or entry of car in any way

I'm sorry but I thought you were going to post up pics of the bracket? I see a bunch of pics above but for some reason I don't remember seeing the bracket.

All kidding aside, that looks pretty cool and fits much better than I thought it would. Two questions: 1) Can you still access the seat slider? 2) I see one pin that releases the assembly. Is the assembly stable as in does it rock with only one pin holding it in?

David, thanks for the sarcastic tone. Like I repeated two times in the last day (once in a response to you) since we're still working on it and revising that bracket I'm not yet ready to post pictures of it as the design WILL change between now and the CNC shop. I'm trying to make it work with a rear-mount option as well as the spirit r recaro seats so cut me some slack . Also, I'm not sure what the purpose of posting pictures of the underside bracket are... It's a one piece part that mounts between the seat rails and has a number of bends to make it meet up with the front. Remember that this is an interest thread, and the purpose is to showcase the functionality and overall appearance, and see who would want one.

The main block will be CNC machined from billet, and the bracket will be CNC bent. We still havent settled on material for the bracket yet as we either need to go thicker or move to stainless steel and widen areas of the bracket to increase rigidity. We're getting close but there is still a lot on the table to be sorted out before saying hey everyone throw your money down. You asked will the single pin cause it to wobble. That all depends on the shape of the male tab and female block. We are looking at ways to "key" them to reduce movement, however that's a tough task. There is a fine line between reducing all movement in the assembly, and the tab/block possibly binding when you are going to yank out the extinguisher in an emergency. Obviously we are working for the least movement possible... but only up to the point where the closer tolerances do no impact removing the extinguisher.

Also, yes you can absolutely access the seat slider, and the seat slider has full range of motion. I've tested it with two seat rails so far and the release point is at the same angle on each one (and we have added a few more degrees of rotation on top of that to play safe). In the picture, the seat adjuster is in the "UP" position (between notches in the rail). The normal position is much lower than the extinguisher.
