Hey guys sorry about the holdups... we're having an issue with the company that was to make the backing caps for the lights. We're working on finding a new shop to create them, or possibly employing a completely different process for the backs which should actually give the lights a smaller form factor (making mounting easier with extra space).

We were originally hoping to have the backing caps finished weeks ago, but the issues we ran into with this shop have really set us back pretty badly. We're going to do our best to have these completed by the end of the year, but realistically it may be into Jan. before they start shipping. I was hoping to not have to push the date back again, but we basically just terminated the relationship with this shop today from lack of progress on their part :icon_tdow. Sorry guys, though this setback will probably result in an even better backing as a result. I know you guys have been waiting a long time :( please bear with us .

Take your time, I'd rather not have a product that's rushed to market.

Does the reduced depth of the light change the optics any? Does it affect the focal length?
Will it make an FB model possible? I know the depth was an issue there.

94touringFD 12-02-10 10:45 AM

I've got the FD lights and my pair have to be sent back, Heath has been great to deal with through the entire process of purchase and fixing my individual issue. Have faith that this delay will result in what could be a higher quality if not the same as initially anticipated. Trust me, once you drive with these at night you'll never want to take them out:icon_tup:

These are definitely worth the wait!

Unfortunately the FB is simply too shallow to use projectors. The rear cap literally just keeps out dust/moisture... the optics are not affected in any way. Basically, with the mold we were using before, we needed to add depth to allow the forms to pop out of the molds. With the new process we should be able to significantly decrease the "bludge" on the back of the housings. just makes them easier to mount basically (plus they will look better). Granted its the back of the housings that you will never see and the only purpose is to keep out dust/moisture... but it will be a better overall product in the end.

MaczPayne 12-03-10 12:57 AM

Here's a thought, the smaller projector units that turboIIrotary uses, can those be adapted for use with the 1st gen housings?

Keep up the good work Heath!

EatSomeCake 12-03-10 03:01 AM

Heath,

Any chance we can see some pictures of where the projectors are at as of now?

they are actually the same length (i have a set here) and are SIGNIFICANTLY inferior projectors, especially for distance-throw. They are wide but the intensity drops off heavily at distance. The FB's just have really really shallow headlight buckets... there's just very little room to fit good (err any) projectors in there.

I'd be happy to post pics of the progress if the backing caps were done... but since we employ a number of proprietary processes to construct them which took a ton of time and money to develop, I'm less inclined to post pictures of them until they are a little closer to completion ;)

EatSomeCake 12-04-10 09:34 PM

I can respect that. Keep up the good work and sorry to hear about the setbacks. The wait is worth it though :)

Yeah it will definitely be worth it... literally night and day (not to tease ya  ). Also part of the setbacks have been a time crunch on my part. Adding to all the confusion and lack of time, I'm also in the middle of my masters thesis, and experienced a huge disaster with a month worth of participant data (~100 participants @ 1/2hr each) that got completely corrupted, and have had to start from scratch.

along with the backing caps debacle (that shop COMPLETELY dropped the ball to the point where we had to simply end things with them) it's just been one huge setback after another (business and personal life). Needless to say, I can't wait for this horrible year to be over... if a piano drops on my head before the year is out, I can't say I would be surprised :suspect:

Actually the delay is probably good for all of us since Christmas is coming up and ties up a lot of cash.

If these are going to arrive after the new year, I need to update my address. Please let me know.

Yes, sorry things will probably slow down a little before the holidays, but we're still working to get the FC lights done and packed before any of the other projects. Please shoot Scrub a PM to update your address. :icon_tup:

"As far as the lights go, we are testing out the new backing material now to make sure it will last for as long as the lights do... so far everything is rock solid. If everything is fine remains ok after durability testing we should have them done in a matter of weeks at this point . These are ahead of the FD lights so you guys will be first to have them.

-Heath"

Heath sent me that on December 27th. That was almost 2 weeks ago. We're getting close:nod:

EatSomeCake 02-06-11 11:10 PM

Heath sent me this on the 4th.....

"I'm working to finish the rest of the harnesses now. I'm guessing a week more should do it? I'm trying to bust my ass on them but it's only me. I've stopped doing FD lights to finish and ship the FC ones so we can get these in your hands."

RX710thAE 02-13-11 04:03 AM

how's it coming along guys? should we be expecting the finish product sometime this week? would love to see a picture update or a little teaser ;)

We're waiting on ONE last part, that has been backordered for a long time now, which is really just for aesthetics. Its a special snap ring to better hold the shrouds. Good news is they are finally back in stock and the package is on the way... so once that arrives the shrouds go in and glass goes back on. All the packing supplies are here, harnesses built, bulbs and wipes packed, ballasts in a pile ready to go... so we are getting very close gentlemen. Again, sorry for the million delays, but that's kinda the nature of super small run parts.

RX710thAE 02-19-11 04:12 AM

that's awesome! and no need to say sorry here bro, we understand all the troubles you guys had to go through, plus we truly appreciate the service and the hard work you guys have done for us FC owners. It's always great to see a company offer something new for the FC community.

just wondering if these are ready to ship out soon, my passenger side headlight (which my friend let me borrow) is dying... cant wait to replace it with a legit headlight setup.

EatSomeCake 03-06-11 11:11 AM

Did the snap rings ever arrive? Any chance we'll get these in March?

Rings are here, and the first set is built. I'll snap some pics when I'm back at the workshop. The rest are just awaiting shrouds and paint. I'm aiming for completion late this coming week, but the paint will take a few days to cure. We're getting quite close :egrin:

I'll have pics tomorrow after the masking tape comes off (wanna give them another day). We'll be shipping them this week though :icon_tup:

Anyone who still has a remaining balance should begin submitting the remainders. I will have Dan (Scrub) PM the balance to anyone who still owes. Thanks again everyone for bearing with us all this time. I realize it's been a long/tedious process, but we're hoping that after getting the lights in your cars you'll feel the wait was worth it.

I have a local FC buddy coming to the shop Wed. to do an install... the process will be somewhat similar to the FD, but we'll take pics along the way, and make a dedicated FC installation guide. I may recycle portions of the FD guide, so if there are a few FD shots in there, please don't kill me

Very Nice and perfect timing! lol Car is about to come out! P.M. me my balance and Ill be sending money asap.

Thank You,
Jose Nieves

RX710thAE 03-15-11 09:53 PM

perfect timing indeed! i get paid friday! LOL...

RotorMotor 03-16-11 11:02 PM

My buddy Peter is over for a test fit/picture session for the instruction manual... but we hit a snag. There are special spacers that we needed to make up to allow the lights to fit without modifying the chrome headlight ring that hold the stock headlights in. Unfortunately this means we gotta have these pieces laser cut to send out with the headlights. I'll post some pics tonight of the finished housings and the installed headlights on Peters car... but these spacers need to be made still. Sorry guys last time I test fit the prototype was a year ago and we didnt have the chrome mounting rings.

RX710thAE 03-16-11 11:59 PM

:( that's fine with me, i don't mind the wait...what's another couple weeks right? lol... as long as we don't have to do any modification on our end.

RX710thAE 03-17-11 02:00 AM

Peter is actually one of my friends on Facebook, he posted a cell pic of it installed...lookin' good! hella bright too haha...
