Yeah, I'm more interested in what it traps at. I'm no drag racer, so whatever ET I could come up with wouldn't be indicative of the car's capabilities.

Saying that you have too much torque is like saying you have too much money.

It's simply stupid.

The key to the v-8s is that the torque is instant and totally controllable. Which is a huge contrast over the turbo rotaries.

Lets put it this way. Having too much torque doesn't lose the race. Having too much torque with a heavy foot does.

I think everyone's concern is traction, or lack there of, in situations where you need it. I'm sure though, with good sized wheels with nice tires and a steady foot you'll have no problems driving one of these monster machines.

Here's my question though, do you really miss the turbo boost feeling? Or does the car have plenty enough pull with the ls1 so that you don't miss it?

I miss it enough that I'm seriously considering turbocharging my ls1.

It pulls hard all the way through to redline, but it could always use more power. I just haven't decided if I'm going off the deepend yet or not.

Just reading about this swap makes me want to buy my friend's FD and do this, wow, I'll bet that low down and silky smooth power feels great. The newest V8 sev I've seen was a FC and it seemed to be a pretty good conversion - it did well on the track and drifted supurbly.

Those Nitto tyres sound cool. What size are they (relatively) in normal tyre speak (for the benefit of non-racer types)?

Are you running 275/17's all the way around? You missed a number.
I know you didn't miss a number but how wide is the tread, it sounds like your guards are swallowing a lot of rubber - cool.

Turbojeff and I took the car to those same scales yesterday after our local autocross because I wanted an idea of the race weight. Afterwards I switched back to street tires and filled the tank and went back to the same scales. I took Jeff along with his R1 for comparisons sake.

From Jeff:
93 R1 wearing 17" Fikses, full tank of gas 2840lbs.

94 Touring w/17" SSR comps, LS1, full tank of gas, 2960lbs. The car has AC, PS, only missing spare tire and Bose hose. 2960lbs.

This pretty much agrees perfectly with my experience last year with my R1 and a friends 94 Touring with nearly identical mods, 120lb split between the two, on SCCA scales.

It is really safe to say the conversion doesn't add more than 20-40lbs.

We took pics of the cars on the scale and Andrew standing on the scale alone. The scale is right on.

As many of you guys know, I recently had my FD tuned. All I can say is that it does'nt matter if you have a v8, or a rotary in your 3rd gen. 400+rwhp in a 2600-2800lb car is extremely fast. With my wimpy 245/45/16s on my FD, 1st and 2nd is pretty much useless. After 3,500rpms all it does is spin the tires uncontrolably. Its just insane.......I still have a few bugs to iron out, but once its finished I'll post some time slips. CJ

CJ, I'd like to see your car before I move (and maybe go for a spin in the RX-8 ) We should meet up some time in the next few weeks. I'd like to take the car to Woodburn and see what it can do, but I can't do that until I buy a daily driver, and I can't do that until I've closed on my new house (Friday).

That would be cool. Only problem is, I'll be on vacation/business trips for the next 4 out of 5 weeks. Are you moving far away, or still keeping it within the state? But, if you're still around, I would love to meet up and check out your car when I get back. Later, CJ

I'm moving to Austin on the 22nd. Sounds like no chance to check out a nice single turbo setup before I leave.
