Sounds like some of you guys must not know about Grannys speed shop, or even about the V8 section on this forum. The 1st gen engine compartment actually has more room than some Mustangs, and the 302/5.0 Ford is an easy swap. I did not have to do any cutting, just a very slight indentation in the firewall for one header.
So what intake manifold are you using? Will it fit under a stock hood? I used an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold, and had to add a raised area to the hood. I cut the hump out of a 280Z hood and welded it on. The hump from a DSM Talon/Eclipse would work well also.
Did you fabricate your own mounts? I made mine before Grannys started selling the Ford kits. With their kit, it is a piece of cake.

UPDATE: motor is running
yes its a 302, and i call complete BS if you didnt have to do ANY cutting at all, as when i flipped my crossmember around, i had to pound in the firewall about 2 inches in a 4 inch circle on both sides for the heads to clear with the valve covers, and beat the transmission tunnel to allow the bellhousing to fit... that and there was lots of cutting of the transission mounts off, and ect ect... no offense, but its not that easy as just bolting it in, there was lots of customizing going on. i used grannys motormounts.
mods to mine:
Trickflow heads
trick flow push rods
trick flow 1.6 full roller rockers
trick flow .500/.512 hydrolic roller cam
victor JR intake
holly 650 dp
msd 6Al
msd blaster coil
msd billit dist.
msd cap and rotor
stock 302 bottom end, all new gaskets and such
85 gsl-se rear end, full LSD with tokiko suspension for auto-x
also running a 100-200 nx wet shot plate system under the carb. the dyno was without nitrous.

The hise rise intake might cause a problem with hood clearence unless your going to be adding a scoop. Thats why my carb sits through the hood. T2 scoop on order when ever CP racing gets off there ***. Is that Chevy orange on a Ford MOTOR??!!!!!!!!!!!??!!!!!!!!!!!

Save your BS for someone else. There is the smart way and then all sorts of dumb ways to do a job like this. I am pretty familiar with what I did, and I did not have to do any cutting on the body. Of course there is lots of cutting and welding to build your own custom motor and tranny mounts, but I put in a huge AOD tranny (Automatic Overdrive) and did not have to modify the floor tunnel except for a very small divot in the old tranny mount to clear the speedo cable. I put the radiator up in the nose, so I had lots of room for the heads and bell housing, and an engine driven fan. I cut the cross member just inside the frame rails, turned it around and rewelded it, then modified a front sump Ford pan to fit in front of it. The tranny mount was done by cutting and pasting the pieces of the RX-7 and Ford mounts. It is ugly, but it works.

the highrise intake means my hood wont clear, so im putting a pro-mod style scoop on it, or a 3" cowl
in the mustang without nitrous, i made 353 at the wheels.

i'm sure you saw that one guy on torquecentral.com that ran 11.3 @ 122 right? he's running stock rear end with stock 13" wheels. pretty good tires , but still.. it wont take too much. just ease the launch and beast it from there. you're gonna get your 10 second time slip. aahhhhh i wish it was this easy with rotaries
