turbo SBC v8, who is doing it and do they have a forum?
turbo SBC v8, who is doing it and do they have a forum?
A couple local guys put chevy 350s in 1st gens recently.
Im looking to see if there are any sites, or knowledge on this forum even, about putting boost to a SBC.
Is the 350 the motor to go turbo on?
thanks

There ya go.
And um... you can go turbo on any motor thats already set up for it (forged internals, low compression, exhaust valves, blah blah blah...) or any motor with the aftermarket to do that to.
The Small Block Chevy has the biggest aftermarket of any motor. Period! Of course you can!
You just need to get forged pistons and rods, of the proper compression of course, and a turbo cam, and some log headers (or stock manifolds upside down if that works) and the proper piping, fuel system and ignition.
Though, you should keep in mind that in doing this youre going to need some serious traction, a strong rear end, and the suspension to put the power down if you want to go racing with this.

Also keep in mind that if you're willing to keep a low level of boost, you could turbo just about ANY motor. Just like adding superchargers and nitrous to an otherwise stock motor, you just keep from going overboard. If you have a stock motor and want to build your project with a turbo, go for it. You can always change the motor later. I'm not saying it's the best idea, but if you have a 'temporary' motor and really want to set everything up with the turbo, there's nothing wrong with it. Just watch the boost and fuel pressure and you'll be fine.
im looking into it. me and another local FC guy are getting tired of the rotary.
I love my car, i like the motor. I would rather have a beast fc that cranks every day and i can actually call reliable. Im at about 400whp now with the 13b thats in it and it gives me problems.
My goal is to have 500+whp and still have it reliable for more then a week or two at a time.
thanks for the replys.

500 whp will have other probs even if the engine is reliable, dude.
Remember how light these cars are, lol... and with that much power you might want to invest in the cobra pumpkin swap (or the 929 carrier with 3.73 gears on torque central..) to get some longer gears.
My two cents would be 400 whp and a 100 shot of nitrous

Plenty of guys running 700+HP (turbo) on a stock 4 bolt chebby block. Check out the Chevy section on turbomustangs.com.
You could also spring the cash for a Dart Little M block, good for well over 1000 HP.

I doubt theyre doing 700 hp on the stock pistons/rods, though... plus youd probably need a better H.G. and you might want some upgraded exhaust valves.
The blocks probably strong, though, Id agree, but Im just pointing this out for someone who might confuse block for shortblock.

Here is the link I wanted to add up above.. Unreal abuse stock internals can take, page 5 is where it all starts to come together at the track
