Smile Turbo 5.0 FD Project(Slowly but surely)

Well i just contacted an old buddy of mine, and bought a my turbo off of him. It is the T04Z(Ball-bearing T04R) for a 1000 bucks. It has a few thousand on the clock. But it is a 2500 turbo good for 750-800hp.

My car has been completely stripped of:
a/c
p/s
abs
heater core
15lbs of wiring
switching to fixed lights
stereo equipment
oem gas tank
tire and tools
antenna
vents
support beam is lightened by maybe a pound
bunch of small crap.

Plus the 5.0 engine is 100-120lbs lighter than 350 with cast iron heads.Aluminum heads going on.

So far im waiting on my shortblock to be completed.
Im using the old a4 block which is said to be good for 1200 horsepower.

I will be using water/methanol 50/50 injection.

Shortblock specs:
decked/align honed
stock bore and stroke
lightened crank
balanced
blueprinted
cam unknown at the moment
ross half raised light racing pistons with lightweight pinwrist/thick rings

I will have more as time goes.

Wouldn't try 1200hp on the street, crazy.

As soon as the turbo parts come in i will take pictures.

And will take pics of cars progression and other parts as they come in.

Update: Just bought some drivetrain pieces from Jason.
Toe links
Trailing arms
Front sway bar

I checked my engine block out the other day and they have gone over the whole block polishing it with a Dremel tool. They have removed som casting pieces tht are unneeded from the factory. Inside the block where the main caps, crank, and cam/timing chain go has been smoothed out and polished.

Just talked to Mike at 5-speed transmission.com. Real cool guy. I will be buying their Tremec TKO replacement, with either a FMS or Mcleod scatterproof steel bellhousing, and a external slave cylinder push type fork with adjustable pivotball setup. I'm probably looking at
1500 for transmission(rated 525 ft lbs of tq)
530 I believe it was for the Mcleod and slave cylinder setup and complete machining.
100 or so for the shipping.

All I need now for my drivetrain is clutch/flywheel combo,
mounts, diff brace and a Kaaz LSD 1.5 way(And of course a driveshaft). Then I will be able to move to complete interior restoration.

at first I just wanted to see pics but now I'm wondering if you're for real. 2 months and not even one pic especially since people have been doubting you because of that. I'm putting you in my "do not look at this guy's post" list

Pretty simple... click the "Browse" button next to the text box in the Attach file section. Locate an image smaller than 102k on your hard drive. Click "Open". Click "Submit Reply".

I'm still wondering what happened to the rear engine/Porsche transaxle project. How far did you get on that, BTW?

Sorry I did'nt reply back. I tried to post pics but they are too big. They are all around 300-480kb. So I guess I'll try to find a website to host pics.

My Tremec will bein tomorow finally.Yeah.

Jim I gotas far as that is a cool idea with million dollars to make it work. It would put way to much weight in the rear, and I measured and measured, but it looked like there was no way in hell I could fit an engine in the back, so I said **** it. Why laugh at me cuz, I stopped before I blew a fuckload money on project that I couldn't make work, to me that would be more funny. So I said screw it and went with something more reasonable. Something wrong with that?

You were just so serious about it... as if it were a done deal. You don't talk about things as if they're ideas, or at least that's the impression I get. So one has to wonder, since you're so serious about this 5.0 turbo project, how far along you really are, or whether this is just another "good idea" you had. Follow me?

Yeah bu jim, I'm admitting it now, I quit it because I knew I wouldn't have the funds to back that specific project. I understand why a lot of ppl doubt me that's why I'm finally posting pics. Also I'm actually waiting on my transmission to get in right now. Built by these guys
5speedtransmissions.com, they also do t56 conversions for the 5.0.

I've just got a wild imagination. I was starting to **** myself off too, AND I FINALLY told myself I need to stick with sumtin. Well since no one has done it yet, and it was a reasonable swap, I've decided to go forth with it.

Sorry guys, for all the damn threads.

But Jim, I was pretty serious about it. And once again it looked like it was unattainable to accomplish it.

Maybe one day when I get more fabrication skills and an extra rolling chassis, I will try. But it's not even a thought at the moment.

P.s. I just closed on my house. WOOWOO.

i was just wondering what kind of rear end mods you'd hafta make? are you gonna have to make a custom rear end or are there any rear ends that will fit it. also, does the engine fit right into the engine compartment? im wondering this because im thinking about putting a 5L in my 88 rx-7.
