Tranny swap

I'm looking for help with info on doing a tranny swap. I have a 200-4r currently in my FC, short story- I probably ruined it cause it won't go forward, only reverse. I was looking to upgrade to either 700-4r or 4L60e to keep the auto configuration, but not sure what all will need to be changed with. Do I have to do anything with computer? I'm novice with mechanics, but ready to try anything and learn. Tranny recommendations welcome too, please. The car was originally manual and clutch pedal & reservoir still in car. Any pointers? Thanksa

700r4 doesn't need a computer, just a TV cable. 4L60 is the same thing as a 700r4. 4L60e is computer controlled.

ok- good to know. Can I ask what you think between buying new vs eBay used? I was thinking of grabbing a corvette trans from eBay which is affordable, or if better, try to see if I can save for new B&M. Wondering if used is worth the risk. Thanks again

Why not have the 200-4r rebuilt to handle your HP? Then you know what your paying for and don't have mod the driveshaft and trans crossmember. 200-4r can handle it all if built correctly.

I was just researching that. The shops I've called here in my city all said they don't work on the 200's saying they're too old. I recently found a couple web pages offering remans & rebuild kits. If I can enlist some help in rebuilding I would prefer that route.

For good measure, I'm think I'm going to go with rebuilding my trans once I get it out. I figured I it doesn't work toward my favor, I can always sell core w kit to put toward the $2K needed for already built one. I figured since I have all winter, there is no better one to learn.
