T56 Shifter Recommendations
I just got my FC back with the new LS1 engine, talk about a fun ride!! The next thing on the list is to find a shifter for the T56 transmission. I currently have the original stock shifter in place and as you can imagine it sits pretty tall in the car. I need to go to a short stick shifter and was wondering what some of you verterans might be using. If possible I would like to get a shifter with a little shorter throw distance as well. What do you all recommend?
Please provide links if you have them.

No links but a lot of guys favor the Pro50 shifter with a Steeda Tri-Ax handle for an LSx-FD. I kinda made my own using a short stick from the WS6store and some steel plate to set the height and angle where I wanted, but I think I'm going to swap to the Tri-Ax handle because even though it's under the shift boot, it's still ghetto fabulous

Thanks for the input Joey. I did a web search on the Tri-Ax and found this site. They show a brief video product review. Looks like this may be exactly what I am looking for. The shifter was designed for Mustangs but they do have one for the T56 as this transmission was used in later Cobra's. I do not know if there is anything different between the Cobra T56 and LS1 T56 that would cause any problems with this shifter in the RX7.
Here's the site link: http://www.stangshifters.com/triaxorder.htm
I am curious to know if there is a reason the entire Tri-Ax shifter isnt used but just the handle. Is there something about the Pro50 that makes it a significant choice over the Tri-Ax? Being on a budget I am hesitent to buy two shifters unless there is a significant reason to do so. My initial inclination is to just go with the Tri-Ax as a complete solution.

No problem. Here's a pic of my ghetto setup that accomplishes pretty much the same thing, but I only did because I was trying to get the console back on there quickly and I'm going to remove eventually. It works great.. I just have a hard time admitting I did it

I did find that you can get the Tri-Ax handle on eBay for around $15 so that takes care of my budget concern. But I still have the question of Pro50 vs Tri-Ax shifter if anybody can weigh in.
Thanks for the pics of your shifter Joey. Looks solid enough. What shifter are you using, Pro50?

I've still got the stock shifter now. As I mentioned, it's functionally fine. And since it's under the shift boot, you'd never know it was 'backyard engineering' working. It's just that I know it's not what a shop would do - I just needed the stick in a different spot, had a couple pieces of steel and a drill, and 'took a shortcut'
I'm going with the Pro50 when I get around to ordering it. Work has been keeping me busy lately so the RX7 has been on the back burner for awhile.
