simple wiring
i am putting a ls in my rx7. this is not very hard for me, but wiring is something that never made sense to me. i want to used the oem wiring to obtain only break lights and running lights(headlight and taillight). i will be using a switch panel, and none of the original dash is going back in. the car is stripped down to the chassis harness excluding the dash harness. before i start ripping out the wiring, i want to know what wires and fuse boxes to leave in order to maintain the lighting i want. the other option is to completely redo the wiring. this depends on how hard wiring it would be.
i have been using this website ( RotaryHeads.com - 2nd Gen RX-7 PDF Technical Manuals FC3S )to help me sort out the wiring, but still confused

If you are cool with leaving a few extra pounds of crap in the car, you can easily use the factory wiring. If you want to strip out every last wire you don't need back to the fuse box/ relay etc, you are probably better of starting over.
Go on Norotors, there is a good guide in the electronics section to prune back the engine and front chassis harness. I just figured out what I needed and either plugged it back in or labeled it. Started at the passenger headlight and worked my way to the firewall. If you can figure out what something is from the wiring diagrams or online guides, I would leave it.
I ended up pulling a bunch of wires back through the firewall and either cut or depinned them. Do the same thing for the engine harness (which you can remove everything but the wipers) and dash harnesses. Then start at the passenger side of the rear hatch and remove everything not needed.
You'll end up with a the things you want, and a large clump of wires that go nowhere. I was lazy and left these. I traced them all back to behind the gauge cluster and pulled all non essential fuses. You can prune these remaining wire stumps to where they terminate if you feel the need, but for 5 lbs on the high side.. It was not worth the time.
