Shopping list for FD-LS1 Swap: What from the 7 to keep? What to get with the LS1?

So if you bought a blown Rx7, what would you keep for the swap into LS1? Maybe it would be better to ask what could you sell?

Then when purchasing an LS1 from say a yard, what should you just go ahead and grab off the donor car while you are there? Engine, tranny, ECU (I think I saw you can keep the ECU) etc.

All help is mucho appreciated.

I went with a pullout from Contemporary Corvette. www.contemporarycorvette.com They trade on eBay as fparts.

Got a 23k mile 01 LS1 from a WS6 Trans Am for $4699. It came with:
Engine, 6-speed trans, PCM, wiring harness, all accessories (a/c, p/s, alternator) stock motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, driveshaft, clutch master cylinder and line, and even the pedal assembly. Also had a 6 month warranty.

I've seen better prices listed, but I'm happy with what I paid and what I got. The f-body driveshaft is $100 to have modified to the right length with an RX7 flange on it. I went with a LIM (LS1/LT1 interface module) from Baker Electronix. Basically a board with relays and pins to make the wiring simple and keep it all in one place.

If you need more info, check out www.hinsonsupercars.com www.grannysspeedshop.com and www.torquecentral.com for all the information you can possibly use and then some.

I was researching a LS2 swap in a 93-95 Rx7. What did you use for engine mounts? Did you have to change the rearend for the swap? Are your stock gauges functional with the LS1/LS2 PCM?
The car is intended for road course racing with a tweaked rev happy LS2. Do u know whats the race weight and weight distribution on your car after the swap?

Thanks

By the way i just noticed u are in Glen Burnie... If possible can i see your car? My car is parked now at a shop in Glen and i might pass by this weekend sometime.

ls1power- go on torquecentral.com in the V8RX7 section and search for a few hours.

All your questions can be answered.

Isn't the point of asking a question to prevent "a few hours of searching"? Especially if you have the answers readily available.

I'm all for "use the search button", but it's obvious the answers to the questions will not come swiftly, as you have to sift through all the bs.

Then, on top of the fact that there is not a thread to answer the questions, dispite the information being there.

Blahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

There can be a lot more gained in doing a search, as typically you'll find a lot of threads with dicussions on the subjects he's asking for. A lot of those questions cannot be answered in one word, one sentence or even one paragraph. A couple of pages of discussion might be necessary to help totally answer them. Engine mounting for example, has several options, along with the necessary oil pan, accessories, to compliment it. All of that stuff is indeed there on Torquecentral.

As far as the rear end goes, several people have been in the 450-500+ RWHP range without significant failures, and a TII clutch type or Kaaz seems to be good for a good bit more. It's really more your driving style then a set HP level that will kill a rearend though, I've seen guys kill S4 TII wheels with 375 RWHP, because they drive like maniacs every time they start the car.

There is always Jimlabs Cobra cradle if you want more options, as I'd think that can handle anything thrown at it in typical duties. Last I read he was talking about having a few more done when his engine cradles were ready.

I was probably a little too gruff, but I was irritated. So sorry for that.

I just feel, whats the point of a forum, if you can't ask a question and receive help. Help isn't pointing to an entire other forum, especially coming from someone with LS1FD in their sig. They probably know of a couple threads to at a minimum point towards the right direction. Then on top of that, considering we don't have a condensed thread about the topics of an LS1FD.

So you must sift through the drama of Jimlabs and Grannys. Jimlabs and his custom mounts and others wanting to buy them. Then, changing of topics throughout threads etc.

Know what I mean?

Oh, and to digitalsolo.... nice "bike".

Yes, I understand what you're saying. The thing is TorqueCentral has a LOT more information on LS1/RX7 stuff then this forum does. Dramatically more, and a lot more people interested in it as well. This section is kind of a hanger-on here, and somewhat of a gateway for people over to Torquecentral.com that the admins on this board are nice enough to keep open for us thus far.
