Quick Question About LS1 Swap In FD

I haven't been able to find a straight answer for this as if you use certain radiators or other parts you will have to. Anyways is it required to cut the FD body at any point to install an LS1? I saw on GrannysSpeedshop they chip out 8 inches on the firewall but I've never seen that on other build threads. The last thing I want to do is ruin the car as I wont even install the Greddy FMIC I have cause it requires you to cut up the rebar.

If you can't find a straight answer, you aren't searching hard enough.

I know Hinsons subfrome does not require cutting of the firewall... I didn't think Grannys did either but I could be wrong.

The only time I have seen people cut into the firewall is if they are serious track folks who need the engine to sit as low and far back in the bay as possible for weight distrabution.

If you are going LS1, why are you so concerned that you wouldn't even install a FMIC? Don't make any damn sense at all but whatever floats your boat.

I had gotten a FMIC for the stock twins but I've changed my plans cause I've already blow two sets up turbos and now the rotary is pulling low vacuum and no vacuum leaks so the motor is definetely not running strong anymore.

As far as searching on this question I found one build where the guy had to cut the body to fit his radiator but that's cause he had an oversized radiator. Another build up thread said he had to cut the sides of the body to fit the engine in. I'm just retarded and have this thing about chopping up the car. Installing a boost gauge already killed my inside to punch a hole in the steering boot. Haha oh well I just needed to know whats necessary and thanks for the reply RotaryRX-007.

no. you don't have to cut the firewall. the LS1 fits in there pretty well.

Hinson stuff on my conversion. I trimmed the firewall lip, the one just below the brake lines, to make froom for the LS1 intake mani, more trimming required for the FAST intake mani, also had to hammer the firewall a bit to get some clearance needed to install the intake mani. Removed the Rx7's IC support crossbar and brackets that it attached to on each framerail. For the T56, the shifter hole had to be enlarged by cutting sheetmetal. Had to hammer a few spots on the tunnel and lower firewall for exhaust and torque arm clearance, I no longer use the Hinson torque arm so no issues with tunnel rubbing anymore.

We had to bang the firewall with a hammer in order to fit the FAST intake.
