Question about Tranmissions[again]

OK I did search and their seems to be a lot of conflicting info.

Ok it seems to me I have only a few choiced for a tranny.

the guy I'm havign help with the car has a Turbo 350 with a b&m shift kit, sounds good 5 hundred bucks for a rebuilt tranny but its not a stick and I'm worried about the rpms he says it has shorter covette gears but I han't ever seen anything about it.IS is possible that he put aftermarket short gears in it when he did the rebuild and shift kit?I could also go 700R but its still an auto and I havn;t seen one cheap yet.

the other is use a T5 out of a camaro or something, but it seems half the people say its junk and it will blow but others say it will last a while if you don't abuse it.so if I don't Drag with it a lot,or drop the clutch from like 4000rpms,will it hold up?
I plan plan on having fun with my car,I might take it to a strip to drag or drag on the road a bit but mostly just screwing around drivng, will a T5 handle this ok or jsut not bother.

The other option might be this as its only like half an hour from me.

Is this a tought tranny?I have heard mincie is good but is it only the rock crusher that is?I am worried that its only a 4spd but would it be affordable [or possible]
to change the gearing in it?

from earlier thread "slap shifter"

the rpm calculator is downloadable at http://www.5speeds.com/ under learnimg center 'rpm calculator'

this site is dedicated to manual 5 and 4 speed sticks with updated parts and rebuild kits

this trans is stronger than a wct5 but without overdrive still turns alot of rpms
there are diferent gear sets but they are expensive see above site

as to t5 overdrive in GM ie camaro, firebird only the v8 w/ 1 1/8 26 spline input shaft is worth while. it will live if no clutch drops, sticky tires. the v6 t5 has the wrong 1st gear ratio and some of the od ratios are to short. t5 from s10 blazer or pu has a diferent shifter location "to far foward"
