is it possible

a couple weeks ago my 86 fc died, compression was below 75 psi, i could go and try to rebuild the engine, or, my dad has a 93 ford v8 5.4 that he has no use for and that works, i was wondering if its actually possible to put that into my 86 fc

I'd say do it but i think that motor is too big to fit... (not sure though)...

take that motor, sell it, buy a LS1, and put that in! haha

Are you sure about that? In 1993, it would have been 5.0 liter (302) or 5.8 liter (351) if it was an F-series truck small block, not 5.4 (326), which is the larger modular motor in Ford's F-series trucks (introduced in the new 1997 F-150 along with the 4.6L modular, if I'm not mistaken).

It makes a big difference. The S/DOHC (single or dual overhead cam) modular motors are huge and heavy. The 5.0 and 5.8 are much more compact and lighter, since they're OHV (overhead valve, pushrod actuated).

If it's the OHC modular motor, then I highly doubt it will fit. I remember someone took measurements and it was way too tall and way too wide to fit. Too tall as in the valve covers were taller than the hood line. The width is debateable since the FC chassis has a wider and longer engine bay than every Mustang produced since '64.

If it's the old school pushrod motor, then yes it will fit. With port EFI you'll have some hood clearance issues, but if switched to throttle body EFI or carburetor you'll be golden.
