I think of the swap as a proven motor in a proven chassis. Not saying the rotary isn't a good motor, just not for everyone. On a side note, I would swap an LS1 over a 20B any day.

Well, my swap cost $9,6XX, including my FD.

Now, if you can find me a 6 speed C5 Corvette for $10K, I'll gladly take out the LS1 from my FD and sell the roller to someone wanting to do a 20B conversion and buy that Vette..

And that's pretty much all it boils down to. LS1s are reliable, pass smog, don't need turbos, have a six speed, and don't change the balance or weight of the car.

I love rotaries. But having owned three FDs, and gone through God knows how many motors and a few sets of turbos, I'm tired of spending the cash on them. I buy cars to DRIVE, not sit in the garage waiting for parts. Besides, there's no competent rotary mechanics in Austin.

LS1 + Rolling Chassis = Cheap, reliable, fast, and fun.

I was just reading this thread going "but.... isn't this a rotary forum?".. but it isn't. Its an RX-7 forum. So... rock out with the engine swaps.... as long as you don't **** over a 10AE or GTUS. Then, you are a soul-less fucktard and should be castrated.

I like how the rotor boys say this all the time. How about the most rare Corvette there is? You know, the one GM PUT A ROTARY IN. Stock.

And a spotless, 60K mile 10AE, all original.

Well, not ALL original.

That's gotta hurt.

People love to talk about how rare and special 10AE's are, like that should dictate what engine someone puts into their own car, but I don't see these people trying to buy them all up and save them from engine swaps.

Oh, you can't afford to buy up all the 10AE's and save them from V8 swaps? Then quit complaining about other people who CAN afford to buy the car and swap a V8 in!

Surely it's not possible. This type of information is only something that you hear but isn't really true! Or it's just because you don't know how to tune! That has to be it, you just don't know what you're doing and you're "taking the redneck/easy way out!!!"

That's funny. Last time I let my guard down I got married. My chick is hot, and she likes torque.

I guess that's why I'm pulling the engine out of her FD today. She wants a 57b.

People do this all the time and guess what, noone cares. Swapping a piston engine into an RX-7 is done by rational people for the performance and financial benefits. When people swap rotaries into piston cars, they often have the "I'm getting back at you!" attitude of a snot-nosed 4th grader.

Comments made by the Puerto-Rican who swapped a turbo 20B into a Mustang:

Most V8 RX7 swappers can appreciate a swap, no matter the donor or engine, as long as it's done right. The very people who are supposed to be offended and get riled up are appreciative and supportive.

The only people who get butthurt are the self-righteous purists on both sides, but noone gives a **** what they think.

^^^^ What he said. With a V8 swap in an RX-7 there is no "getting back at you all" attitude because its a proven combination, whereas there is for the rotary into the Mustang.

If it wasn't for some guy (yes I know his name) back in the 60's that looked at a smaller, LIGHTER, sports car and thought "I wonder......" then people wouldn't have the oportunity to pay 5 million bucks for one of the sweetest rides on the planet. The bigger engine in a lighter car idea has been done for a long time. Each decade it seems there is a new platform that is developed that allows us to afford the performance we want without the $600/month car payment. Remember v8 to old fords (replaced the flathead 4cyl), the smblk ford into mg, the smblk chevy into 240-280 z-cars, v8 into vegas/pintos? The rx7 just happens to be a near perfect canidate for a v8 swap. They are already light, they have outstanding brakes from the factory, the suspension requires very little work, and they are affordable. When the all alum. ls1 hit the scene, it was a perfect match. I don't know about anyone else, but I have driven a piston engine car that pinged for miles with a failed EGR valve and was just fine after replacing the EGR valve. If your under boost and something goes wrong (and is does sometimes) a rotory engine usually doesn't last very long. Even though the initial cost of a v8 swap is still a little high, the price comes down every year.

txfatboy, it doesn't even have to get that complicated.

It's as simple as someone taking their car and saying "I want THIS engine in it." As long as they have a decent reason (could be as simple as "because I want to") and the engine serves the purpose that they want it to, then WHO CARES?

I'm baffled by the amount of people who feel the need to spout **** at someone because they decide they want a different engine in their car. It's their car, they own it, they can do whatever the hell they feel like with it. It's not like all these V8 RX-7 owners come invading the rotary forums proclaiming how much better their engines are than rotaries.

I swear, car enthusiasts can be some whiny bitches sometimes. They always have to complain about something. To me, a car enthusiast who can't appreciate a good car isn't really a car enthusiast.

Thats funny.

As previously stated there is a corvette rotary. It was a prototype that GM was considering building. It had a 4 rotor in it. I don't know how many were built, but I have seen one in person at Road Atlanta. It was way ahead of its time and very impressive.
