He can do whatever he wants.
People can do whatever they want to do with their rx7s

I don't mind at all, but I personally wouldnt do that to my any rotary car though.

Let's quote this for future reference and when the bidding ends.

Seller: teresaspieces

This is a conversion manual on how to convert your second generation 1986 - 1991 RX 7 to Chevrolet V8. It's a complete manual and easy to follow. My son wrote this manual with technical support from Granny's Speed Shop in Concrete, Washington. So don't ask me any questions. I don't know. He has sold hundreds of these with no complaints though. There are 54 pages. See my other auctions. Thanks for looking and bidding!

i see no problem, as many people on this forum have dropped V8s in their rexes. Let dumbasses spend their dough on it. IMO the rotary may be expensive, but not as expensive as that. Some people have no brains though, so they switch to the easiest alternatives. I can only see one benefit. Any Joe Shmo can work on a V8. It takes a real mechanic to really build a rotary right.

Edit: Just coined a phrase: "See outside the piston." That should be the forum tag line. :Kill1:

Valkyrie 01-23-07 10:52 PM

pff, rebuilding rotaries is a LOT easier than rebuilding a V8...

unW7WZ 01-23-07 10:57 PM

true. But 99% of the mechanic populous can't seem to understand the rotary concept. After all, any time I tell someone about my RX-7 they quote something they "heard" like "don;t they break down a lot?" and "they wear out fast" etc., etc., etc.... Let people who don't know how to reasearch stuff and just go off of "what they heard" waste their time and money.... I do agree a piston engine compared to a rotary is an inferior technology...

Tyblat 01-24-07 12:59 AM

you'd think people buy the 7 for its unique rotary engine. If someone wants a ls1 just go buy a corvette.

why dumbasses waste their money on Piston swaps is beyond me

RotaryEvolution 01-24-07 01:09 AM

who cares?

i don't.

if a customer comes in with a seven and a motor and asks me to drop it in do you think i am going to turn them away? it's their money and their car after all and i'm not one to judge. maybe he loves his car, maybe he's been through 10 motors, who knows...

I think the RX7 and a Corvette weigh a little different on a monetary scale. :rlaugh:

micah 01-24-07 01:45 AM

The only way I would care is if somebody V8-ified a GTUS or 10AE. Otherwise, Knock yourself out. The other day I saw a BMW with rotary engine. Can BMW people get equally as pissy about it? I thought it was cool as hell! :) I want a Mercedes with a 20b.. .that'd be pimp. Or a VW Bug/Baja with a single rotor.... I would be equally as mad if somebody took a limited release piston car and put a rotary engine in it.

MaczPayne 01-24-07 01:49 AM

I have nothing against engine swaps in rx7's. Just don't put a shitty motor in and everything's golden.

a13btrx7@hotmail.com 01-24-07 03:32 AM

well for me i hate cross breeding . it totally changes the car , i think its ok to do it with the same maker though for example putting a 13b in a miata is ok with me .

dsmrx7 01-24-07 04:27 AM

"V8 is not an engine option, it's a juice" LOL...I remember reading this somewhere...

I'm with him HOWEVER let me say this.... If someone wants to swap.. fine I dont care BUT as for me I think it is sacrileg but again thats me...

J-Rat 01-24-07 08:22 AM

The V8 debate rages on...

I personally dont care. I plan to (GASP!) build a V8 powered FC one of these days, and NO it wont be my 10th AE. I think it would be a blast to own! I think there are plusses and minuses to both power plants.

riverzendz 01-24-07 08:24 AM

That booklet has been available on eBay for quite some time. Nothing new and it doesn't matter. I wouldn't do it but I'm me. If I was someone else I might do it.

That what the for sale forum looks like... sheesh and to think these aholes are putting LS1's and other american v8's in a RX-7... it's shameless.

lovingthefc3s 01-24-07 12:27 PM

Its just cheaper to have your rotary rebuilt.

.......maby pay for a streetport ;)

........maby pay for new rotor housings ;)

I think v8 swaps boil down to one thing in General.........................the sound.

........7 rednecks ;)

yeah, i wish that were true.. i have been looking for a decent FD with a blown motor for a good price for a little while now.

NoviceRotaryTech. 01-24-07 03:00 PM

look at it this way: More rotary engine parts for us rotor heads.

513rotary 01-24-07 03:03 PM

bou tthe rotary is easier to rebuidl than a v8, i wouldnt go that far, if ur skileld at both, maybe i tis, Ive only taken apart one 13b, however, I can redo a small block literalyl in a few hours. And, for me at least, the v8 is more relaible than anyhting, n soooo much cheaper to work on n build up. Anyone can go to any junkyard n snag up a 350 fo rabout 250 bucks, put another say, 500 bucks in it, n u have about 300-325 horse, and the same amount of torque. I liek both though. If my 3b blows, Im gonan strongly think bou tdroppign a 327 in it

TheWrongMotor 01-24-07 03:19 PM

By the way, that manual has been on ebay for around 5 years.

The funny thing is that the car on the cover doing the burnout is a friends car, and the picture was used without authorization.

It's not even a small block Chevy!

Suckers born every day!

RX-Heven 01-24-07 06:52 PM

That picture is of Marks (GNX7) old car that I took of him with his camera right outside my house. I also took some video of him doing 100+ yard burnouts down the same street. The tire marks were there forever

Funny thing is that car was not even V8 powered. It had a Turbo Grand National engine in it, as his name imples. That thing was stupid fast.

If I were rebuilding a rotary and porting it, I'd do it all by myself.

I don't think the V8 guys will ever argue that the V8 is easier or cheaper to rebuild. They are typically more sensible than that. The reason most people gravitate to the V8 is that it's easier to build and tune, which is especially true when you start aiming for 500+ whp.

I personally am considering a V8-powered RX-7, down the road, but for me, the sound is actually the biggest detractor. It's not that I love the 2-rotor exhaust note, but I love it compared to a V8. Now if that V8 could sound like a 3-rotor, that would be awesome. However, I'm not about to let one silly little aspect of an engine like the sound of it keep me from choosing a good powerplant.

An LS1 swap is about the easiest way to get a 6-speed into an RX-7, not to mention making pretty good power right off the bat. Good engines are good engines, and good chassis are good chassis. I don't see why so many people feel the need to bag on someone else's motor choice, it's not like you have to drive it.
